WVU Football Has A Bye; Eagles-Steelers Highlights NFL Betting Action This Weekend

Posted on October 9, 2020

WVU football has a week to enjoy its double-overtime win over Baylor before getting back into action on Oct. 17 against Kansas. That doesn’t mean there’s no football to bet on of local interest in the Mountain State, however, as the NFL battle for Pennsylvania is set for Sunday afternoon.

The 2020 version of the Philadelphia Eagles vs. Pittsburgh Steelers tilt may not be the only game of interest for WV sports betting fans this weekend. Other teams in neighboring states each other as well.

Breaking down the odds on the NFL battle for Pennsylvania

Four of the online sportsbooks in WV have a consensus on the touchdown spread and the line on the total for this game. There is a slight disparity from book to book on the odds in those markets, however.

There’s reason to like the over this week. The Over is 2-0 in Steelers home games this season. Additionally, the Over hit in five of the Eagles’ past six road games.

Pittsburgh has averaged 48 points per game at home in that small sample. However, Philadelphia’s defense showed what it’s capable of in its victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

The Steelers might have the firepower to overcome that with a healthy Diontae Johnson lining up wide. If Pittsburgh’s defensive line can harass Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, the spread could be larger than a touchdown.

Philadelphia has covered in six of its last eight road games as the underdog, so keep that in mind. This 1 p.m. ET game on FOX might have you flipping between it and another matchup of regional NFL teams at the same time on CBS.

The Cincinnati Bengals could get a statement win on the road against the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday. Sportsbooks don’t like their chances, however. As of Friday morning, William Hill doesn’t even have markets live for the contest online.

The other 1 p.m. ET game of local interest if the Washington Football Team hosting the Los Angeles Rams. Washington isn’t as big of an underdog as Cincinnati but this game has the unpredictable element of being the season debut for quarterback Kyle Allen as Washington’s starter.

MLB playoff, NBA Finals promos at WV sportsbooks

Friday night offers the fifth and deciding game of the series between the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays, with Tampa Bay as the consensus favorite. Whichever team wins that game will then face the Houston Astros in Game 1 on Sunday.

WV online sportsbooks’ contingent of promos for baseball this weekend include:

  • BetMGM: Walk-Off HR promotion – place a pregame wager on any MLB game of at least $25 and if any player hits a walk-off home run in that game, you’ll get a free $10 bet.
  • DraftKings: Boosted its Yankees moneyline for Friday’s game to -155
  • FanDuel: Home Run Double-Up – Place a pre-game moneyline wager of up to $50 on the Rays-Yankees game Friday and if the team you stake hits at least three home runs, the book will double your profit if you win.

For Game 6 of the NBA Finals on Sunday (if necessary), you might want to consider these deals:

  • BetMGM: New customers can place a $1 bet on either side of the moneyline. If either team hits a 3-point attempt during the game, the sportsbook will credit your account with $100.
  • FanDuel: NBA Final Basket Bonus – Place a pregame moneyline wager on either side of up to $50. If the last made basket of the game is a 3-point basket, FanDuel will double your profit if you win.
  • William Hill: 3 Dollar 3 Pointers – Bettors who stake at least $100 on either side of the spread before the game and win get an extra $3 for each 3-point basket the team they staked made during the game.

There may not be a Mountaineers game this Saturday, but that doesn’t mean this weekend is devoid of betting action. MLB, the NBA, and the NFL hope to tide you over.
