On The Board At WV Sportsbooks This Weekend: PGA Tour And MLS Soccer

Posted on July 3, 2020

The summer rolls on with another action-packed weekend at West Virginia sportsbooks. As sports bettors wait patiently for the return of the big four American sports, there is plenty to wager on the next few days.

The PGA Tour continues to be one of the top betting markets available at books. Last week’s Travelers Championship was another great tournament right down to the end.

This week, players gather for the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club in Michigan. Although the field isn’t as deep as the past few weeks, there are lots of quality participants like Bryson Dechambeau and Rickie Fowler.

While the MLS doesn’t restart until next week, online sportsbooks in the Mountain State feature odds for the event. American soccer is set to return with a league-wide tournament in Orlando prior to its regular season.

Sportsbooks include individual matches, as well as futures for the MLS is Back Tournament.

Outside of these options, WV residents can find lots of other alternatives at sportsbooks this weekend.

Several European soccer leagues are in rotation, along with some unique markets for Independence Day.

The state’s online sportsbooks are always available, however, now so are most retail locations.

It’s quite possible WV expands its mobile wagering platforms in the near future, too. Online casinos may potentially launch this month.

Let’s examine the weekend’s top betting options and what promotions are available to take advantage of.

Betting on the PGA Tour

The PGA Tour has been doing well since returning a few weeks ago. Since there have been only a few tournaments thus far this season, most of the world’s highest-ranked players are competing regularly.

This has proven to create some great events each weekend.

Last week’s Travelers was no different. Dustin Johnson took home the title by a narrow margin down the stretch.

Even though the Rocket Mortgage’s field isn’t as packed as the first tournaments, there are still many talented golfers.

The first round included 24 players who shot -5 or better. Currently, Doc Redman, Scott Stallings, and Kevin Kisner are tied for the lead at -7.

If you missed betting on the event before it started, you’re not too late. The state’s online sportsbooks all list updated futures odds to win the tournament.

There are also a wide variety of other matchup odds and tournament props.

Some enticing second-round matchups include the following odds according to DraftKings Sportsbook:

Patrick Reed vs. Hideki Matsuyama

  • Reed -106
  • Matsuyama +125
  • Tie +800

Bubba Watson vs. Jason Day

  • Watson +100
  • Day +120
  • Tie +800

Matthew Wolff vs. C.T. Pan

  • Wolff -120
  • Pan +140
  • Tie +800

After shooting an opening-round 66, Dechambeau has put himself in a good spot for a victory. He’s finished in the top 10 in each of the first three tournaments back.

DraftKings now sees him as the favorite to win this weekend, although there are several notable players with short odds. Here are the online sportsbook’s odds to win the Rocket Mortgage heading into day two:

  • Bryson Dechambeau +275
  • Webb Simpson +1100
  • Tyrrell Hatton +1400
  • Doc Redman +1400
  • Kevin Kisner +1600
  • Rickie Fowler +1800
  • Scott Stallings +1800
  • Adam Hadwin +2800
  • Viktor Hovland +2800
  • Tony Finau +3300

Betting On MLS Is Back

Besides golf and UFC fighting, the MLS will mark the comeback of American sports. The soccer league is scheduled to begin play on Wednesday, July 8.

The MLS is Back consists of all 26 teams, playing a total of 54 matches.

Clubs will start group-stage matches next week, followed by knockout rounds. Every team will play at least three games, with those results counting toward the regular-season standings.

The winner earns an automatic bid into the 2021 Concacaf Champions League.

Of course, the MLS doesn’t have some of the star names found in Europe, but it is growing in popularity. There are many soccer fans in the US who have embraced the sport and online wagering has only helped.

If all things go as planned, this event should be an exciting one that generates plenty of viewers. It’s playing every game at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida.

BetMGM Sportsbook already includes lines for individual games and multiple futures. The following are BetMGM’s odds to win each group:

Group A

  • New York City +333
  • Philadelphia +350
  • Inter Miami +400
  • Orlando City +400
  • Chicago Fire +450
  • Nashville +800

  • Montreal Impact +333

  • Real Salt Lake +300
