WV Sports Betting Handle On The Rise As Sportsbooks Prepare For A Busy Weekend

Sports betting in West Virginia saw a strong increase in activity for the month of July with handle nearing $15 million for the month.

Sports betting in West Virginia saw a strong increase in activity for the month of July. Mountain State sportsbooks’ handle grew to almost $15 million for the month, a 142% improvement from June.

This was encouraging news for a market that was struggling to generate a lot of bets. With the majority of popular sports sidelined until recently, sportsbooks haven’t been seeing too many wagers.

That is starting to change, though. After the WV Lottery released the latest week of sports betting within the state, it’s clear that sports betting is on its way back.

A big reason for the push in the right direction is the three WV online betting apps available on the market. Together, they accepted more than $10 million in bets in July. This accounted for about 70% of the overall handle.

While mobile platforms were the only source for sports betting during the COVID-19 shutdown, retail sportsbooks are contributing now, too.

The month of July was also a successful one in regards to revenue. WV sportsbooks earned over $1.4 million in total.

In spite of the handle discrepancy, retail locations generated plenty of revenue. The three active sportsbooks made more than $650,000, or 46% of the total.

August betting figures should most likely keep climbing due to the additions of the NBA and NHL. Hockey’s playoffs are onto the first round, while the NBA is just about set to head into its postseason.

Sportsbooks are filled with these markets throughout the weekend.

There are several other notable sports offered, like MLB and the PGA Tour. Although there isn’t another major tournament this week, sportsbooks have you covered for the Wyndham Championship.

Let’s take a closer look at the July revenue breakdown and preview what’s ahead this weekend to wager on.

WV Sports Betting July Review

Even with the tough circumstances, the state is dealing with, WV sportsbooks are slowly getting back to their previous production. Continued success is important for the WV budget since it lost so much expected revenue over the last few months.

July was a step in the right direction and should be a sign of things to come. As major sports are on the calendar for the foreseeable future, the months ahead will likely feature even more betting.

Besides expanding upon a mostly slow June, the most recent figures truly show the difference online wagering makes. Even with limited markets for most of the month, this past July was much more profitable than July 2019.

Online sportsbooks didn’t re-emerge in WV until late Aug. 2019.

Total handle reached just over $6 million a year ago, compared to the nearly $15 million this July. This was a 129% increase between these two months.

Revenue took a sizable jump, too. The over $1.4 million in earnings from last month is a 190% increase from the around $500,000 from a year ago.

If there wasn’t any sports stoppage, these differences would be even wider.

Hollywood Casino, along with DraftKings Sportsbook, led the way in both handle and revenue.

Combined, they took in over $8 million in wagers, while generating almost $900,000 in revenue this July. DraftKings was responsible for 56% of the total handle, but just 39% of the revenue.

The Greenbrier finished second in both categories.

Its retail location and two online platforms totaled nearly $6 million in handle. FanDuel Sportsbook and BetMGM Sportsbook drove most of the betting at The Greenbrier, with 98% of the total.

The sportsbooks didn’t do poorly earning revenue, either. The Greenbrier earned about $445,000 during the month.

Mountaineer Casino brought up the rear for active sportsbooks. It still doesn’t include an online app to go with its land-based book.

Mountaineer accepted around $750,000 in wagers and earned slightly more than $85,000 in July.

Both Mardi Gras Casino and Wheeling Island remain closed for sports betting.

NHL Playoffs At WV Sportsbooks

The NHL playoffs started off as if there hadn’t been any layoff at all. Teams stepped on the ice and immediately starting delivering big hits and skillful goals.

With the qualifying round now complete, 16 teams remain in what looks like the more traditional NHL postseason.

Games are on every day, even in the afternoon. Of course, this weekend is no different, with 14 total matchups between Friday and Sunday.

Although some of the series have already started, online sportsbooks always update futures odds. You’re able to wager on series prices throughout the round, as well as individual games and props.

Hockey fans are in luck because there are so many good series to watch and bet on. On the opening night of the first round, the Tampa Bay Lightning came out victorious over the Columbus Blue Jackets in the fifth overtime session.

Despite setting a record with 85 saves in the game, Jackets’ goalie Joonas Korpisalo took the defeat. Lightning forward Brayden Point scored his second goal of the game ten minutes into the eighth period.

Playoff hockey is known for having some long contests that stretch on for more than three periods.

DraftKings includes more than enough hockey lines to bet on. At the moment, bettors can take the following odds on which teams will win the following series:

  • New York Islanders (+113) vs. Washington Capitals (-136)
  • Arizona Coyotes (+235) vs. Colorado Avalanche (-286)
  • Montreal Canadiens (+195) vs. Philadelphia Flyers (-240)
  • Vancouver Canucks (+167) vs. Louis Blues (-200)
  • Columbus Blue Jackets (+375) vs. Tampa Bay Lightning (-500)
  • Chicago Blackhawks (+465) vs. Vegas Golden Knights (-670)

Betting On The NBA And PGA Tour

WV sportsbooks have plenty of other available markets for this weekend, as well.

The NBA’s regular season comes to a close on Friday night, so this weekend is your last opportunity to get a futures bet in prior to the start of the playoffs.

Its restart has been a success, with lots of good games being decided in the final seconds.

In the Western Conference, the fight for the eighth and final seed is on.

Portland now owns the final spot, with several other teams right behind it. The Grizzlies, Suns, and Spurs all sit just a half of a game back in the standings.

Whichever team finishes ninth will play the eighth seed in a play-in tournament to determine who gets to take on the Lakers.

With not much change at the top, betting odds haven’t shifted much during bubble play. Right now, FanDuel Sportsbook shows the following teams as the favorites to win this year’s NBA title:

  • Milwaukee Bucks +260
  • Los Angeles Lakers +280
  • Los Angeles Clippers +320
  • Houston Rockets +1000
  • Toronto Raptors +1000
  • Boston Celtics +1700
  • Denver Nuggets +2700
  • Miami Heat +3000
  • Dallas Mavericks +4900
  • Utah Jazz +4900
  • Portland Trail Blazers +7000
  • Indiana Pacers +8500

The PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship is another option for the weekend. After another great Sunday of golf last week, we’ll see if the action from the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina can match it.

This week’s field isn’t quite as strong as at the PGA Championship, however, there are a lot of top players competing. According to BetMGM Sportsbook, the following are the odds to win this week’s golf event:

Wyndham Championship Odds

  • Webb Simpson +1000
  • Brooks Koepka +1200
  • Patrick Reed +1600
  • Paul Casey +2000
  • Tommy Fleetwood +2000
  • Justin Rose +2200
  • Harris English +2800
  • Billy Horschel +3300
  • Kevin Kisner +3300
  • Ryan Moore +3300
  • Sung-Jae Im +3300
  • Brendon Todd +3500

WV Sportsbooks Feature A Loaded Weekend Of NBA, NHL, And MLB Betting

Sports are finally back and this weekend at West Virginia sportsbooks, you’ll be able to wager on the NBA, NHL and Major League Baseball.

The moment all sports bettors have waited for is finally here. This weekend at West Virginia sportsbooks, you’ll be able to wager on the NBA, NHL and Major League Baseball.

For the first time in over four months, sports fans can bet on multiple of the most popular betting markets around.

This is excellent news for the Mountain State and sportsbooks across the country. Betting handles will start to once again increase to where they were before the COVID-19 shutdown.

Despite having online sports betting apps in place for wagering, this has been a slow period for bets. Until recently, there weren’t a lot of available options at sportsbooks.

While getting the UFC and MLS back was helpful, these sports leagues don’t match up to the big four American sports.

This weekend should prove to be one of the busiest for sports bettors in quite some time.

The start of the baseball season has already had an impact. Sportsbooks now have more to wager on, including live markets during the day.

Even though MLB betting has supplied a much-needed boost, books should take off this weekend.

Both the NBA and NHL are entering the final stretch, and champions are close to being crowned.

The basketball restart includes an eight-game “regular season” schedule. Teams will have the opportunity to fine-tune their games before entering the playoffs.

On the other hand, hockey is diving right into the most competitive play. With no regular games put in place, the 24-team playoff tournament is set to begin on Saturday.

Fortunately, things are looking up for the WV Lottery. After months of not meeting expectations, sportsbooks have lots of great options, and the first WV online casino in DraftKings Casino has launched.

Betting On The NBA at WV sportsbooks

NBA enthusiasts have been waiting patiently for months. This weekend marks the first time they can wager on their favorite team since the season was postponed on March 11.

The remainder of the year gets underway with two games Thursday night and plenty of others this weekend. In total, there are 17 games available from Friday to Sunday.

Although these eight games before the playoffs are not crucial for most teams, there is some need to win immediately.

Like always, the top eight teams from each conference qualify for the postseason. The only difference with this year’s new format is that the squads on the outside have more of a chance.

If the ninth seed finishes within four games in the standings of eighth place, then those two teams will compete in a play-in series. Those two teams will match up with one another, with the No. 9 seed needing to win both games to move on.

The eighth seed would only need a single victory in either of the two games.

This means that teams needing to make up ground have no room for error at the start. In the Western Conference, four teams are within four games of the eighth-place Memphis Grizzlies.

The NBA didn’t waste any time scheduling some crucial contests.

Memphis will battle the current ninth seed, the Portland Trailblazers, in both teams’ first action back. Portland sits 3.5 games back of the final playoff spot at the moment.

Of course, WV sportsbooks see this as a very tight game. DraftKings Sportsbook lists the Blazers as the favorite, laying -2 points with a moneyline of -134. Memphis is receiving the +2 spread, and have a moneyline of +112.

NBA promo at DraftKings

The online sportsbook provides several promotions to celebrate the restart of NBA betting. One of the best offers gives customers a 5-1 boost on any team of your choosing.

After opting-in to the deal, you must choose a game from this weekend (through Saturday) to boost. Once you’ve selected which game, you can add either team’s moneyline to your betting slip and apply the boost.

The most you can wager for this promo is $20, earning you $100 with a correct pick.

This offer is for any game taking place from July 30 to August 1.

One of the biggest moneyline favorites to win their first game is the Orlando Magic. They’re giving -7 to the Brooklyn Nets, with a moneyline of -286.

With DraftKings’ boost, you could get odds of +500 for Orlando instead. This game tips off on Friday afternoon.

On Saturday, the Philadelphia 76ers are the most sizable favorite. They’re laying -6 points in their first game back against the Indiana Pacers.

DraftKings lists Philly at -250 to win the game.

NHL playoff betting

The NHL season also makes its return this weekend. As opposed to playing in any meaningful regular-season games, teams will hit the ice as the 2020 playoffs begin.

Typically, the NHL playoffs are very fast-paced and physical, so it will be interesting to see how these series start. We may see more injuries than usual since players have been away from the game for so long.

The NHL tournament features 24 teams, with 16 of them participating in a qualifying-round matchup. A best-of-five series determine this opening round.

The additional top eight teams (four from each conference) play round-robin games against one another to determine the top seeds.

FanDuel Sportsbook has everything NHL bettors are looking for. It showcases plenty of NHL markets for individual games and series.

FanDuel also includes futures lines for which team will win the Stanley Cup.

In the first game back to action, the New York Rangers will take on the Carolina Hurricanes. This qualifying series gets started on Saturday at noon.

The online sportsbook currently lists the Hurricanes as slight favorites, despite not having any home-ice advantage.

FanDuel has Carolina listed at -130, while the Rangers are at +110 to win the first game. The total for this tilt is set at 5.5 goals.

You can wager on the outcome of this series, too.

The Rangers are slight underdogs to come out on top at +112, and the Hurricanes are favorites with odds of -136.

This weekend has a total of 10 games to bet on.

MLB betting at WV sportsbooks

There is a full slate of MLB games at sportsbooks this weekend, as well. Although the Marlins are struggling with the spread of the coronavirus, it appears that the first week of the new season has gone well.

Although there won’t be any Marlins or Phillies games available, books have lots of quality series to wager on.

In what always proves to be a great matchup, the New York Yankees will play their home opener against the Boston Red Sox.

The Yankees are off to a hot start, whereas the Sox are still finding their way.

The three-game set will conclude on Sunday night baseball in a pitching duel between Matt Hall and James Paxton.

As expected, the Yanks are favorites to win the series. According to BetMGM Sportsbook, they’re listed at -223, and the Red Sox have odds of +195 to win the opening game.

Another good series is between the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves. The two sides already completed a series to start the season, with the Braves taking two-of-three.

They will go head-to-head this weekend again to see if someone can jump ahead in the NL East.

BetMGM lists Atlanta as the favorites to take the first game of the series, with odds of -134. The Mets are the underdog to win the opener at +120.

Big 12 Conference Holding Its Ground Despite Big Ten And Pac-12 Decisions, At Least For Now

WV sports betting has been awaiting the return of major sports, but with college football around the corner, what will WVU football’s schedule look like?

West Virginia sports betting has been anxiously awaiting the return of major sports. With MLB back in play and the NBA set to return soon, all eyes are on the NFL and college football.

With more than a month until the start of the scheduled regular season, it’s clear that college football is facing an uphill battle.

As players were invited back to begin preseason workouts, positive COVID-19 tests began popping up everywhere. Colleges across the country reported multiple coronavirus cases on their football teams, including at WVU.

Now as the new season approaches, precautionary measures are being taken.

Both the Big Ten and Pac-12 conferences announced last week that they would be playing a conference-only schedule for all fall sports.

In spite of their decision, the Big 12 Conference, among others, are waiting to make such a difficult decision.

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby explained why he felt “it’s a little early” to make such a drastic move. According to CBS Sports, he said:

“We need to do what our doctors and our scientists are telling us, which is move slowly ahead and constantly reevaluate. The virus is going to decide whether we’re ready and able to play.”

The schedule change in the Big Ten actually has a direct impact on WVU football, and another Big 12 program.

WVU will no longer play its Sept. 19 game at home against Maryland. Iowa State will also not travel to play in-state rival Iowa.

Although many around the US, including West Virginia sportsbooks, would love to have a normal college football season, it’s going to be tough. The Big 12 may have to adjust its plans in order to keep health as a priority.

It would be a massive disappointment if college football betting wasn’t available at all this year. Retail sportsbooks and online sports betting apps are desperate for the return of popular markets.

Big 12 Conference Football

College football is very important around the country, but it’s different in certain areas. With not as many professional teams in Big 12 country, fans gravitate to their favorite college teams even more.

This is definitely true in Morgantown, and probably part of the reason why commissioner Bowlsby is hesitant to reduce the football season.

The SEC and ACC have also not made any decisions regarding their schedules as of yet.

The process would be much easier is if COVID-19 cases remained low. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case for a large portion of the country.

While WV is still one of the healthiest states, some of its neighbors in the South aren’t doing as well. Texas and Florida have seen a tremendous amount of new coronavirus cases in the last few weeks.

Even though the future is looking bleak at the moment, there is no issue with waiting to make a decision. There is still time before the season gets underway, so nothing needs to be set in stone this second.

Bowlsby was actually surprised to hear about the Big Ten choosing to play a conference-only slate this season. He said:

“[Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren] never gave any indication that this is what they were going to do. In fact, he told us this morning at some length that he was not going to surprise anybody and that he would get to us in advance.”

Regardless of other conferences making these decisions, it appears that every conference is on its own going into the year. This means that all might feature different regulations and rules around weekly testing.

Although it might not be the result everyone wants, playing just a conference schedule in 2020 could make the most sense.

College Football Plans

Some leagues have disregarded this fall entirely. The Ivy League and the Patriot League have both canceled all fall sports and will look to play football in the spring.

This could be a bad sign for the rest of the conferences looking to play.

While these moves can be viewed as cautious, the Ivy League was the first to opt out early from the basketball season. Of course, every other conference followed its lead shortly after.

Let’s hope this isn’t an indication of what’s to come for college football.

Other schools are taking a different approach. Oklahoma, a fellow Big-12 opponent, is working on adjusting its schedule for safety reasons.

By moving its opener against Missouri State up to Aug. 29, the Sooners would have an open week after each of the first two weeks. It would also give OU an extra bye in the beginning part of its non-conference schedule.

Oklahoma already has a two-week gap between its game against Tennessee on Sept. 12 and its following matchup with Army on Sept. 26.

Extra time could be extremely valuable this year in college football. Teams will constantly be testing their players and naturally, some will show up positive for COVID-19.

With more space between games, players could miss less action after entering quarantines.

It’s unclear how the rest of the Big 12 feels about the current direction things are going in. The conference’s athletic directors planned to meet on Tuesday for a previously scheduled call.

It is possible news comes from this meeting; however, it’s been reported that the league will wait until the end of July to decide.

If the Big 12 decides to join some of the other Power 5 in conference-only schedules, it already has a plan in place.

WVU Football Betting Odds

College football fans are very anxious about this upcoming year. It would be catastrophic for schools all over the US if the 2020 season is not played.

After already losing revenue from March Madness, college programs absolutely need the funds provided from football. Some smaller schools have already begun eliminating sports that they can no longer budget for.

Unfortunately, this trend will surely continue if the worst happens for college football this fall.

While things are uncertain, many are still optimistic. WV sportsbooks are absolutely hoping college football, among other sports, can all safely return.

Even with schedules up in the air, bettors are able to place futures wagers on this season. Each of the online betting apps featured in the state have odds up. They include:

At the moment, DraftKings shows the following odds to win this year’s National Championship:

  • Clemson +150
  • Ohio State +275
  • Alabama +400
  • Georgia +1200
  • Florida +2000
  • LSU +2000

It marks Woods’ first real action back since the sports world shut down due to COVID-19. Woods did play in the charity event featuring Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, though.

  • Justin Thomas

The Memorial Betting Odds

The Memorial is typically one of the bigger tournaments every year that isn’t a major. This year, it feels even more important with golf having a shortened season.

Of course, the talk around this week’s event is one Tiger Woods. With it being his first week back on the tour, he’ll see plenty of attention from both the media and at sportsbooks.

In fact, DraftKings Sportsbook has you covered with several different odds boosts for Woods’ opening round. He’s scheduled to tee off at 1:17 p.m. along with McIlroy and Brooks Koepka.

The online sportsbook lists odds for Tiger to hit the first three fairways in regulation. If he’s able to be straight off the tee box, bettors can cash-in off of boosted odds of +165.

Another option on DraftKings provides you odds of +705 for Woods to record an eagle in the first round. There are four par-5’s on the course for him to take aim at.

One boost includes McIlroy and Woods. If both players can shoot a birdie or better during their first hole, you can have a nice payday. DraftKings boosted these odds to +2250.

Its final deal gives bettors +250 odds for if Woods has a first round score under 68.5 strokes.

As mentioned, each online sportsbook lists a variety of betting markets for the golf tournament. You’ll also have the opportunity to bet on different matchups each day, as well as updated odds to win the entire event.

European Soccer At WV Sportsbooks

The European soccer season is almost over, so bettors must take advantage of the remaining matches. This week, there are a few games that stood out among the rest.

In the EPL, Tottenham and Leicester City get together in a pivotal match on Sunday. Leicester currently sits in fourth place in the table. It’s tied with Manchester United with 59 points and is ahead by a +3 goal differential.

The Spurs are in seventh, just four points behind their opponents.

Although Liverpool has wrapped up the title, these matches are crucial for determining who qualifies for Champions League next year.

On FanDuel Sportsbook, Tottenham is the slight favorite at +130. Leicester is the underdog with odds of +210.

The draw is also available at +230.

Odds for the first goal scorer of the game are tight. Tottenham’s Harry Kane is the favorite at +390, while Leicester’s Jamie Vardy is close behind at +470.

FanDuel offers an odds boost for another Premier League tilt, as well.

A Manchester United win, along with a goal from Marcus Rashford, is now available at +140. United faces Crystal Palace on Thursday afternoon and has odds of -340 to win the match outright.

The online sportsbook lists Rashford at -140 to score at any time.

In Italy’s Serie A, there are just a few matches remaining, too. On Sunday, Inter Milan will battle Roma in a matchup between the fourth and fifth place teams, respectively.

Inter is the small favorite with odds of +130, whereas Roma is listed at +190.

Of course, you’re able to wager on a bunch of different game and player props with FanDuel.

It shows Romelu Lukaku with the top odds of scoring during the match at +105. Edin Dzeko has the best odds for Roma, with +135.

Betting On Fight Island

UFC Fight Island is back again throughout the week and this weekend. The biggest fight on the card is between Brazilian Deiveson Figueiredo and American Joseph Benavidez.

The main event will be the last match to take place on Saturday night.

At BetMGM Sportsbook, Figueiredo has odds of -223 and Benavidez is at +180.

If you can determine how the match will finish, you can take advantage of some favorable odds. BetMGM provides the following options:

  • Figueiredo by Decision +375
  • Tie/Technical Tie +5000
  • Benavidez by KO/TKO, DQ or Submission +500
  • Benavidez by Decision +350

The fight prior to this one between Kelvin Gastelum and Jack Hermansson should be an interesting matchup for bettors.

BetMGM has Gastelum at -121 right now, with the underdog at +100.

The online sportsbook also offers odds for if the fight will go the distance. You can take Yes at -125, or No with odds of -106.

On The Board At WV Sportsbooks This Weekend: PGA Tour And MLS Soccer

The summer rolls on with another action-packed weekend at West Virginia sportsbooks as sports bettors wait for the return of the big four American sports.

The summer rolls on with another action-packed weekend at West Virginia sportsbooks. As sports bettors wait patiently for the return of the big four American sports, there is plenty to wager on the next few days.

The PGA Tour continues to be one of the top betting markets available at books. Last week’s Travelers Championship was another great tournament right down to the end.

This week, players gather for the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club in Michigan. Although the field isn’t as deep as the past few weeks, there are lots of quality participants like Bryson Dechambeau and Rickie Fowler.

While the MLS doesn’t restart until next week, online sportsbooks in the Mountain State feature odds for the event. American soccer is set to return with a league-wide tournament in Orlando prior to its regular season.

Sportsbooks include individual matches, as well as futures for the MLS is Back Tournament.

Outside of these options, WV residents can find lots of other alternatives at sportsbooks this weekend.

Several European soccer leagues are in rotation, along with some unique markets for Independence Day.

The state’s online sportsbooks are always available, however, now so are most retail locations.

It’s quite possible WV expands its mobile wagering platforms in the near future, too. Online casinos may potentially launch this month.

Let’s examine the weekend’s top betting options and what promotions are available to take advantage of.

Betting on the PGA Tour

The PGA Tour has been doing well since returning a few weeks ago. Since there have been only a few tournaments thus far this season, most of the world’s highest-ranked players are competing regularly.

This has proven to create some great events each weekend.

Last week’s Travelers was no different. Dustin Johnson took home the title by a narrow margin down the stretch.

Even though the Rocket Mortgage’s field isn’t as packed as the first tournaments, there are still many talented golfers.

The first round included 24 players who shot -5 or better. Currently, Doc Redman, Scott Stallings, and Kevin Kisner are tied for the lead at -7.

If you missed betting on the event before it started, you’re not too late. The state’s online sportsbooks all list updated futures odds to win the tournament.

There are also a wide variety of other matchup odds and tournament props.

Some enticing second-round matchups include the following odds according to DraftKings Sportsbook:

Patrick Reed vs. Hideki Matsuyama

  • Reed -106
  • Matsuyama +125
  • Tie +800

Bubba Watson vs. Jason Day

  • Watson +100
  • Day +120
  • Tie +800

Matthew Wolff vs. C.T. Pan

  • Wolff -120
  • Pan +140
  • Tie +800

After shooting an opening-round 66, Dechambeau has put himself in a good spot for a victory. He’s finished in the top 10 in each of the first three tournaments back.

DraftKings now sees him as the favorite to win this weekend, although there are several notable players with short odds. Here are the online sportsbook’s odds to win the Rocket Mortgage heading into day two:

  • Bryson Dechambeau +275
  • Webb Simpson +1100
  • Tyrrell Hatton +1400
  • Doc Redman +1400
  • Kevin Kisner +1600
  • Rickie Fowler +1800
  • Scott Stallings +1800
  • Adam Hadwin +2800
  • Viktor Hovland +2800
  • Tony Finau +3300

Betting On MLS Is Back

Besides golf and UFC fighting, the MLS will mark the comeback of American sports. The soccer league is scheduled to begin play on Wednesday, July 8.

The MLS is Back consists of all 26 teams, playing a total of 54 matches.

Clubs will start group-stage matches next week, followed by knockout rounds. Every team will play at least three games, with those results counting toward the regular-season standings.

The winner earns an automatic bid into the 2021 Concacaf Champions League.

Of course, the MLS doesn’t have some of the star names found in Europe, but it is growing in popularity. There are many soccer fans in the US who have embraced the sport and online wagering has only helped.

If all things go as planned, this event should be an exciting one that generates plenty of viewers. It’s playing every game at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida.

BetMGM Sportsbook already includes lines for individual games and multiple futures. The following are BetMGM’s odds to win each group:

Group A

  • New York City +333
  • Philadelphia +350
  • Inter Miami +400
  • Orlando City +400
  • Chicago Fire +450

  • New York RB +200

WV Sportsbooks: PGA Tour Golf And English Premier League Odds Are Hot This Weekend

Plenty of popular sports are back at West Virginia sportsbooks this weekend, including another PGA Tour event and the return of the English Premier League.

This upcoming weekend is another notable one for bettors. Plenty of popular sports are back at West Virginia sportsbooks, including another PGA Tour event and the return of the English Premier League.

As July approaches, more betting markets are becoming available. Sportsbooks are finally starting to look somewhat normal again.

While some retail books aren’t open for business quite yet, you’re able to wager through any of the WV online sports betting apps. They all feature more than enough odds for every sport currently playing.

Even though some of the major American sports are still working their way back, soccer fans should have no complaints.

England’s top level of soccer, the EPL, is back for the first time since the sports stoppage. It got underway with its first games on Wednesday.

The action starts up again on Friday afternoon and continues through the weekend. There are nine matches in total.

Bettors now have the majority of Europe’s top leagues available to bet on. The EPL joins Germany’s Bundesliga as well as Spain’s La Liga.

Golf fans are in store for another exciting tournament, as well.

Betting On EPL Soccer

The most popular soccer league in the world is back at sportsbooks this week. Bettors have several matches to wager on involving some of the EPL’s most famous clubs.

On Friday afternoon, Manchester United takes the pitch against Tottenham in what should be an exciting game. Although the league’s champion is all but set with Liverpool in first by 22 points, the remainder of the season is important for others.

Manchester United falls under that category as it currently sits in fifth place overall, just three points behind Chelsea. Tottenham is in eighth at the moment, however, it is only three points behind Sheffield in sixth.

FanDuel Sportsbook’s odds see this as a very tight matchup. It lists United as the slight favorites with +140 odds, while Tottenham is at +190.

The online sportsbook provides many other markets for this match, as well.

You can bet on Harry Kane being the first goal scorer with odds of +330. Marcus Rashford is the favorite to score first for United at +290.

FanDuel has even provided an odds boost for this contest.

You’re able to wager on Manchester United winning and there being at least three goals scored at odds of +320. This has been boosted from +272.

Another quality match takes place on Saturday morning between Arsenal and Brighton.

Arsenal, which sits in ninth place, is the favorite with odds of +130. FanDuel shows Brighton as the underdog at +200.

Again, the online sportsbook offers lines for many various props for every game.

Bettors can take Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to score at any time with odds of -115. Brighton’s Neal Maupay has odds of +155.

Another PGA Tour event, another DraftKings Sportsbook promotion. This week, bettors can take advantage of the online sportsbook’s newest deal based around the RBC Heritage golf tournament.

The max bet for this promo is $50, with the max winnings capped at $250. Available boosts will expire at the end of each day.

If that wasn’t enough, DraftKings offers an additional promo for the third round on Saturday.

Just like the initial deal, bettors receive a 30% boost for one third-round wager. The only difference is this bet can be made live or prior to the start of the round.

You’ll have the opportunity to place a pre-match bet before the third round on either Friday night or Saturday morning.

Otherwise, the same rules apply. The max wager is $50 and the most you can win is $250. Parlays are also included.

WV Sportsbooks Waiting (Not So) Patiently For The Return Of Major Sports Leagues

Sports like Bundesliga and UFC have kept WV sportsbooks in the game. An even bigger boost is close with the big four American sports nearing a comeback.

While the return of some sports like Bundesliga soccer and UFC have been crucial for West Virginia sportsbooks, an even bigger boost is right around the corner.

The big four American sports, as well as golf, tennis, and soccer, are all nearing a comeback. Professional leagues are coming up with new plans to determine the best route possible to get back to work.

The NBA and NHL almost completed their regular seasons when the leagues were forced into a stoppage.

After the NBA Board of Governors approved basketball’s latest 22-team plan, both winter sports are in a position to restart. Barring any health setbacks, a champion will be crowned in the NBA and NHL this year.

The return of Major League Baseball hasn’t been as smooth.

Beyond getting on the field for another spring training, players and owners are still negotiating the finer details. There are discrepancies in how many games will be played and how many players should be paid.

On a brighter note, MLS appears like it could be the first American sport back on the board at WV sportsbooks. The soccer league and players agreed to terms on Wednesday to a new collective bargaining agreement.

The MLS season is set to resume with a tournament scheduled to take place at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports facility. The complex near Orlando, Florida, is also home to where the NBA will reopen its year.

Thankfully, it seems as though the NFL is on pace to begin its upcoming season on time. While some voluntary workouts have been held virtually, the league is hoping training camp and the regular season remain unaffected.

Let’s take a closer look at the status of each league and what bettors should expect when they start playing again.

NBA’s Return Plan

The NBA voted on Thursday and approved the innovative 22-team format to restart the 2020 season. Games are supposed to begin on July 31 if everything goes to plan.

The 22 teams will consist of 13 Western Conference teams and just nine from the Eastern Conference. The league chose the top 16 squads from each conference, along with teams within six games of eighth place.

Those who benefitted from the extended arrangement include:

  • New Orleans Pelicans
  • Phoenix Suns
  • Portland Trailblazers
  • Sacramento Kings
  • San Antonio Spurs
  • Washington Wizards

Qualified teams will start back up with eight “regular season” games. These contests will help determine the seeds for the usual 16-team playoff bracket.

Most teams are already set in place; however, the six teams mentioned do have an opportunity to make the field.

If the ninth seed in either conference finishes this schedule within four games of the eighth seed, those two teams will compete in a play-in tournament.

The No. 9 seed would need to beat the No. 8 seed in both potential play-in games to earn the conference’s final seed. On the other hand, the No. 8 team would only need to win just one of those contests.

Currently, the Wizards are 5.5 games behind the eighth-seeded Orlando Magic. In the West, the Blazers, Pelicans, and Kings are all 3.5 games back of the No. 8 Grizzlies.

When the 16 teams are decided, playoffs will run like normal, with four total rounds being determined by seven-game series.

Players will start training with their teams in Orlando between July 9-11. The last date that the NBA Finals would conclude is Oct. 12.

NHL Postseason Tournament

The NHL has also finalized its playoff format. This season, it will finish the year out with a 24-team tournament. Similar to the NBA, the majority of teams will participate in the NHL’s Return To Play Plan.

Only the bottom seven teams in the league won’t be playing when teams return to the ice.

While playoff teams are set to compete against other conference opponents, this year’s layout is a little different than most.

The conference’s top four sides in both the East and the West have a bye past the opening round. They will play one another in a round-robin style schedule to determine the order of the top four seeds.

Each conference’s remaining eight teams matchup in a more regular first round. These consist of best-of-five game series with standard playoff overtime rules.

The winners from these opening-round series advance to face one of the best four teams from their conference. As the playoffs continue, teams will re-seed after each round, as opposed to a straight bracket format.

This means that the No. 1 seed will always face the lowest possible seed still in contention.

Once the initial playoff round is complete, every series that follows will be decided by a seven-game series.

Since the teams and qualifying series are already in place, WV online sports betting apps feature odds for who will advance. At the moment, DraftKings Sportsbook lists the following odds to win their qualifying round:

  • Calgary Flames -118 vs. Winnipeg Jets -106
  • Carolina Hurricanes -136 vs. New York Rangers +110
  • Edmonton Oilers -167 vs. Chicago Blackhawks +135
  • Nashville Predators -143 vs. Arizona Coyotes +116
  • New York Islanders -122 vs. Florida Panthers +100
  • Pittsburgh Penguins -195 vs. Montreal Canadiens +155
  • Toronto Maple Leafs -175 vs. Columbus Blue Jackets +140
  • Vancouver Canucks -134 vs. Minnesota Wild +110

Other Sports Leagues Coming Back

There are plenty of additional sports coming back, too.

Even though some may not return for another month or so, online sportsbooks in the Mountain State include futures odds for nearly every market.

Mobile platforms include:

As mentioned, MLS soccer may be one of the first sports back in the US. Teams are looking to arrive in Florida by June 24 for training.

It seems as though each team will play in a minimum of three games that will be included in the regular standings. Following that, the top 16 squads advance to a knockout stage that will play independently from the season.

The remainder of the regular schedule hasn’t been decided on at all.

Another sport almost back in action is the PGA Tour. While there have been a few special golf events played, the full tour has yet to return since sports stopped.

Players return to the course next weekend for the Charles Schwab Challenge. It will take place between June 11-14 from Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

Outside of the country, a lot of other popular soccer leagues are nearing their returns.

Spain’s La Liga is scheduled for a June 11 start date, whereas the English Premier League is set for June 17. Italy’s Serie A will follow those with games on June 20.

Invitation Accepted: WVU Hoops Set To Compete In The 2021 Charleston Classic

WVU hoops have a very busy schedule for 2021 and the team just booked another tournament, the 2021 Charleston Classic, an event run by ESPN.

The West Virginia sports betting crowd is ready for live sports to return. While many around Morgantown are undoubtedly excited for football season, college basketball betting is not far off, either.

The WVU Mountaineers are coming off a quality 2020 season and have high hopes heading into next year. Coach Bob Huggins had his team ready for another March Madness appearance again until games were postponed.

WVU has a very busy schedule for 2021 and the team just booked another tournament for the following year. The Mountaineers will compete in the 2021 Charleston Classic, an event run by ESPN.

WVU will join seven other teams in the annual tournament, including:

  • Boise State
  • Clemson
  • Marquette
  • Bonaventure
  • Temple

Two more teams have yet to be named.

The Charleston Classic is a three-day event that takes place at the TD Arena at the College of Charleston. This marks the first time that WVU will play in the tournament.

The event will be entering its 14th year in 2021 and is played in November each year. Florida is the reigning champs, defeating Xavier in the most recent championship.

Besides the Charleston Classic, WVU hoops is playing in several other tournaments this upcoming year. The Mountaineers will have plenty of opportunities to build their tournament resume for the spring.

Although the season is still months away, WV sportsbooks already list odds for next year. You’re able to place a futures wager on the national championship, as well as which teams will make the Final Four.

WVU basketball 2020

WVU is looking to improve on a solid campaign where it went 21-10 overall and finished third in the Big 12 Conference. Despite a tough stretch toward the end of the year, the Mountaineers won their last two games and were ready for another NCAA Tournament.

Unfortunately, with sports shut down, the tournament never took place. WV sports betting fans are more than ready to make up for lost time.

WVU features a very skilled team that can make some noise next season. It is scheduled to play in a couple of events outside of its regular-season games that will truly test this unit.

This November, the Mountaineers are playing in the 2020 version of the Battle 4 Atlantis. The tournament takes place on Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas.

WVU will help celebrate the event’s 10th year with some of the best college basketball teams in the country. The 2020 Battle 4 Atlantis includes:

  • Creighton
  • Duke
  • Memphis
  • Ohio State
  • Texas A&M
  • Utah
  • Wichita State

If the schedules remain intact, then the tournament will run between Nov. 25-27.

Another event WVU is participating in is the Hall of Fame Invitational at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. If everything goes according to plan, the Mountaineers will play the Purdue Boilermakers on Sunday, Dec. 13.

WVU has a couple of other irregular games scheduled, too. The team will compete against both Pitt and Georgetown in the Big East/Big 12 Battle.

The Mountaineers will also take on an SEC opponent in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. The team hasn’t been confirmed as of yet, however, the game will play on Saturday, Jan. 30.

With all of these notable games on next season’s calendar, WVU has a chance to show the entire country how good it is.

WVU betting at WV Sportsbooks

WV sportsbooks expect the Mountaineers to perform even better than they did a year ago. A big part of their success will come down to some key players making their return to Morgantown.

Coach Huggins is anticipating that his three leading scorers from last season will be back playing inside WVU Coliseum. Oscar Tshiebwe, Derek Culver and Miles McBride should all be key contributors again.

The three led WVU in scoring, with only the freshman McBride averaging fewer than 10 points per game (9.5). The team will rely heavily on these three in 2021.

On top of scoring, Tshiebwe can be one of the most dominant players in all of college basketball. He averaged over 11 points, nine rebounds, to go with a block and almost a steal per contest.

If he’s able to show some growth between his first and second seasons, WVU could have a real shot to win the Big 12.

College basketball doesn’t begin for several months, but every online platform in WV shows odds already. Mobile options include:

Currently, you’re able to bet on which teams will make the 2021 Final Four and who will win the title game. DraftKings features the following odds for WVU basketball:

  • Win National Title: WVU +1900
  • Make Final Four: WVU +400

WVU Football: A Look At The Mountaineers And The 2020 College Football Season

After a forgettable 2019, WVU football gets ready for the 2020 college football season. The Mountaineers’ season opener is Sept. 5 against Florida State.

The WVU Mountaineers football team is certainly ready to start preparing for next season. After a forgettable 2019, second-year coach Neal Brown and his squad want to get back out on the playing field.

Of course, the start date for this upcoming season is in jeopardy due to COVID-19. While some of the country, including West Virginia, is beginning to open businesses back up, there are still lots of questions around live sporting events.

Although other sports are still trying to figure out the safest plan of action, college football has some time. WVU’s season is currently slated to start on Sept. 5 against Florida State.

Along with football fans in the Mountain State, WV sportsbooks are very hopeful that the college season starts on time. Betting revenue figures have plummeted since the nation entered quarantine protocol.

Even though the Mountaineers aren’t ranked in ESPN’s Way-Too-Early Top 25, expectations are high in Morgantown. The team is looking to greatly improve on its 5-7 record and get back to being contenders in the Big 12 Conference.

Last season was definitely a struggle, but the team performed much better down the stretch. Following a five-game losing streak, WVU won two of its final three games.

While those victories didn’t do anything to change the fortunes of last year, it was a step in the right direction. The coaching staff and fan base are hoping it was a preview of what’s to come in 2020.

Let’s take a deeper look at WVU’s outlook and how the team might fare in coach Brown’s second campaign.

WVU Football

With a 3-6 record through mid-November, the Mountaineers decided to make a change at quarterback. This move paid off tremendously as they ended the season on a high note.

Although junior Jarret Doege wasn’t unstoppable, he provided a spark the team was missing with Austin Kendall.

WVU proceeded to defeat No. 24 Kansas State and TCU on the road. Its only failure with Doege under center was a seven-point loss to No. 21 Oklahoma State.

In total, Doege completed almost 66% of his passes for over 800 yards and seven touchdowns down the stretch.

While Doege has all of the momentum on his side this offseason, he isn’t a lock to be the starter next year. Kendall will be back, along with guys like Trent Jackson and Trey Lowe III.

It’s tough to tell how much practice time players will actually get before the season starts, but a quarterback competition is never a bad thing. Coach Brown will have multiple quality options to be his signal-caller.

One aspect of this year’s team that needs to improve is its running game. Both quarterbacks were asked to do too much in order to win.

Despite the fact that team rushing stats are slightly skewed because of negative sack yards, WVU struggled last year.

As a whole, the Mountaineers rushed for less than 1,000 total yards in 12 games. They ran 334 times for 879 yards, an average of just 2.6 yards per carry.

Fortunately, WVU returns its leading rusher from a year ago in Leddie Brown. He led the team in rushing in six games and accumulated 367 yards for the season.

It won’t be easy, but the Mountaineers have a lot of pieces in place to help make 2020 a much more memorable season.

College Football’s Top-Ranked Teams

Even if WVU exceeds all expectations next year, it probably won’t be in the picture to qualify for the College Football Playoff. It could have a very productive season and make a bowl game, but the Mountaineers are still a few years away.

When looking at the national picture, a lot of familiar teams are at the top of the rankings. Here is ESPN’s top three heading into the preseason:

1. Clemson

The Tigers have been one of the best programs over the last decade. They’ve made the playoff in each of the last five seasons.

Even though they lost plenty of players to the NFL in the draft, the Tigers are again among the best teams.

Clemson’s biggest strength is with its offensive playmakers. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence is a Heisman frontrunner and likely the top pick in next year’s draft.

Running back Travis Etienne is no slouch, either. He totaled over 2,000 yards from scrimmage a season ago.

With the ACC Conference not as strong as some others, it would be very surprising if Clemson isn’t back competing for a title.

2. Ohio State

Another team that’s been a stalwart in college football recently is the Ohio State Buckeyes. Not coincidentally, they also have one of the best quarterbacks in the country.

Justin Fields was spectacular last season, leading OSU to the CFP. The Buckeyes went undefeated until the playoff when they just narrowly lost to Clemson.

Like the Tigers, Ohio State will feel some effects from losing studs like Chase Young and Jeff Okudah. However, it always finds a way to be among the best teams with loaded recruiting classes yearly.

The Big 10 Conference is much more competitive than the ACC, but it still shouldn’t matter. Unless the injury bug happens to strike in Columbus, the Buckeyes will most likely be in contention at the end of the year.

3. Alabama

Last season was the first time Alabama missed the CFP in six years. That probably doesn’t bode well for the rest of the nation and the SEC West.

A motivated Nick Saban will have his guys ready to go from the start, even with a lot of new players.

The most notable change will be at QB since Tua Tagovailoa took his talents to the next level. Junior Mac Jones and freshman Bryce Young will compete for the starting position.

Whoever wins the job will have more than enough help around him. Receiver DeVonta Smith and running back Najee Harris are explosive options. Both players accounted for more than 1,200 yards in 2019.

The Tide’s inexperience at quarterback could haunt them in the end, but they are likely to have a great year and return to the playoff.

WV Sportsbooks Feature Some Unique Sports To Keep Bettors Betting

Online sportsbooks in West Virginia are open for business and currently showcase betting odds not available before coronavirus closed the sports world.

The process of social distancing has impacted everyone around the country, including the sportsbooks in West Virginia.

With every WV casino closed, there is a more significant emphasis on mobile sports betting apps.

While all three in the Mountain State are still accepting sports bets online, there isn’t a whole lot to bet on.

The sports shutdown throughout the world has forced the online platforms to offer some very unique betting markets.

Online sportsbooks are open for business and currently showcase odds that might not have existed previously. Mobile wagering apps include:

Although most of the betting options don’t necessarily bring in a lot of revenue, sportsbooks don’t expect them to. A few of the random markets now offered are mostly helping books keep bettors active during this incredibly slow period.

Acquiring customers is one of the most challenging tasks for any new business. Since these online sportsbooks have already devoted a lot of time and money into building a customer base, they don’t want to do so again.

By providing some different markets that wouldn’t be available; otherwise, betting apps can keep the interest of everyone.

So even though sportsbooks and casinos are losing plenty of money at the moment, they understand the circumstances. If they’re able to retain the majority of bettors that use the online platforms, then they’ll be content and in a good position when sports do return.

Let’s examine some of the most uncommon betting odds offered right now at WV sportsbooks.

Moscow Table Tennis

Table tennis is by far one of the strangest markets available to bet on. Although it’s an Olympic sport, there isn’t much coverage around professional ping-pong in the US.

Table tennis is usually considered a game played among friends at a social gathering, but now you’re able to wager on the pro league in Moscow.

The Moscow Liga Pro is offered at multiple online sportsbooks in WV.

While you might want to do a little research on the actual scoring rules of table tennis before wagering, the odds are presented just like regular tennis matches.

On top of providing you a sport to bet on, FanDuel even gives you something to watch. You’re able to live stream most of the table tennis matchups directly from your mobile device.

Even though ping-pong is a bizarre sport to wager on, it makes sense why sportsbooks feature odds for it. Americans are familiar with the game and can definitely find some entertainment value by putting money on a match.

Taiwan Basketball

Another sport that people in the US love to watch and gamble on is basketball. Without the NBA or March Madness this spring, bettors must turn to Taiwan basketball.

Of course, American basketball is widely covered in this country, but you don’t hear too much about foreign leagues. Though several international teams are more than formidable, the majority of good players take their talents to the NBA.

Despite probably not knowing much about players or rules, you can bet on Taiwan basketball at WV sportsbooks. Even though there aren’t as many odds given as you might typically find, there is at least a moneyline for every game.

Again, sportsbooks recognize that they won’t be earning a lot of revenue from these markets. DraftKings implemented a maximum profit of $500 for specific events.

But like table tennis, basketball is very common around the US and is something bettors might find exciting no matter which country it’s being played in.

Virtual Sports

As far as betting on bizarre sporting events, nothing is weirder than animated virtual sports. While this option is usually listed at online casinos, BetMGM highlights virtuals at the top of its sportsbook.

If you’re unfamiliar with these types of “sports,” they are exactly what they sound like. Bettors can put money down on a computer-generated race or game.

Currently, BetMGM has the following options available:

  • Horses
  • Greyhounds
  • Motorcycles
  • Cars
  • Soccer

Instead of waiting for a live event to begin, you can place a bet on a virtual race or match anytime you want.

Some people might enjoy putting a few dollars down on virtual sports. However, they would never be listed as a top sportsbook option in most cases.

World Soccer

The most normal oddball betting market is soccer matches in foreign countries. Although international soccer leagues like the EPL, La Liga, and Serie A are very popular for bettors in the US, all of those are shut down as well.

With minimal options remaining, online sportsbooks are bringing attention to any soccer they can find.

The most popular option is professional soccer in Belarus. All three mobile betting apps in WV include odds for the Vysheyshaya Liga.

Another market offered is soccer in Nicaragua.

Unlike table tennis or virtual sports, the game of soccer is the same everywhere in the world. If sportsbooks can occupy bettors for a few months with markets that seem familiar, then they’ve done their job.
