On The Board At WV Sportsbooks This Weekend: PGA Tour And MLS Soccer

The summer rolls on with another action-packed weekend at West Virginia sportsbooks as sports bettors wait for the return of the big four American sports.

The summer rolls on with another action-packed weekend at West Virginia sportsbooks. As sports bettors wait patiently for the return of the big four American sports, there is plenty to wager on the next few days.

The PGA Tour continues to be one of the top betting markets available at books. Last week’s Travelers Championship was another great tournament right down to the end.

This week, players gather for the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club in Michigan. Although the field isn’t as deep as the past few weeks, there are lots of quality participants like Bryson Dechambeau and Rickie Fowler.

While the MLS doesn’t restart until next week, online sportsbooks in the Mountain State feature odds for the event. American soccer is set to return with a league-wide tournament in Orlando prior to its regular season.

Sportsbooks include individual matches, as well as futures for the MLS is Back Tournament.

Outside of these options, WV residents can find lots of other alternatives at sportsbooks this weekend.

Several European soccer leagues are in rotation, along with some unique markets for Independence Day.

The state’s online sportsbooks are always available, however, now so are most retail locations.

It’s quite possible WV expands its mobile wagering platforms in the near future, too. Online casinos may potentially launch this month.

Let’s examine the weekend’s top betting options and what promotions are available to take advantage of.

Betting on the PGA Tour

The PGA Tour has been doing well since returning a few weeks ago. Since there have been only a few tournaments thus far this season, most of the world’s highest-ranked players are competing regularly.

This has proven to create some great events each weekend.

Last week’s Travelers was no different. Dustin Johnson took home the title by a narrow margin down the stretch.

Even though the Rocket Mortgage’s field isn’t as packed as the first tournaments, there are still many talented golfers.

The first round included 24 players who shot -5 or better. Currently, Doc Redman, Scott Stallings, and Kevin Kisner are tied for the lead at -7.

If you missed betting on the event before it started, you’re not too late. The state’s online sportsbooks all list updated futures odds to win the tournament.

There are also a wide variety of other matchup odds and tournament props.

Some enticing second-round matchups include the following odds according to DraftKings Sportsbook:

Patrick Reed vs. Hideki Matsuyama

  • Reed -106
  • Matsuyama +125
  • Tie +800

Bubba Watson vs. Jason Day

  • Watson +100
  • Day +120
  • Tie +800

Matthew Wolff vs. C.T. Pan

  • Wolff -120
  • Pan +140
  • Tie +800

After shooting an opening-round 66, Dechambeau has put himself in a good spot for a victory. He’s finished in the top 10 in each of the first three tournaments back.

DraftKings now sees him as the favorite to win this weekend, although there are several notable players with short odds. Here are the online sportsbook’s odds to win the Rocket Mortgage heading into day two:

  • Bryson Dechambeau +275
  • Webb Simpson +1100
  • Tyrrell Hatton +1400
  • Doc Redman +1400
  • Kevin Kisner +1600
  • Rickie Fowler +1800
  • Scott Stallings +1800
  • Adam Hadwin +2800
  • Viktor Hovland +2800
  • Tony Finau +3300

Betting On MLS Is Back

Besides golf and UFC fighting, the MLS will mark the comeback of American sports. The soccer league is scheduled to begin play on Wednesday, July 8.

The MLS is Back consists of all 26 teams, playing a total of 54 matches.

Clubs will start group-stage matches next week, followed by knockout rounds. Every team will play at least three games, with those results counting toward the regular-season standings.

The winner earns an automatic bid into the 2021 Concacaf Champions League.

Of course, the MLS doesn’t have some of the star names found in Europe, but it is growing in popularity. There are many soccer fans in the US who have embraced the sport and online wagering has only helped.

If all things go as planned, this event should be an exciting one that generates plenty of viewers. It’s playing every game at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida.

BetMGM Sportsbook already includes lines for individual games and multiple futures. The following are BetMGM’s odds to win each group:

Group A

  • New York City +333
  • Philadelphia +350
  • Inter Miami +400
  • Orlando City +400
  • Chicago Fire +450
  • Nashville +800

Group C

  • Toronto +160
  • NE Revolution +275
  • DC United +333
  • Montreal Impact +333

Group D

  • Sporting KC +225
  • Minnesota United +225
  • Colorado Rapids +300
  • Real Salt Lake +300

Group E

  • New York RB +200
  • Atlanta +200
  • Columbus Crew +240
  • Cincinnati +600

Group F

  • LAFC -110
  • LA Galaxy +350
  • Portland Timbers +350
  • Houston Dynamo +600

Additional Odds At WV Sportsbooks

Manchester United is sizable favorites going up against Bournemouth. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, United is -650 to win, with the underdog set at +1900.

On Friday afternoon, Chelsea battles Watford. Chelsea is listed at -260 to win the match and Watford at +700.

FanDuel has an odds boost in place if you like the favorites in these matchups. If you bet on Manchester United, Leicester, and Chelsea to win, it will boost your odds to +200.

Weekend Betting At WV Sportsbooks: Horse Racing With Fans & Double The NASCAR

Horse racing, PGA Tour, and a rare NASCAR double-dip headline the West Virginia sports betting menu for the wekend of June 26.

West Virginia sports betting fans view a stacked wagering lineup this weekend.

And it starts early, with Thursday action playing a prominent role.

Besides the revitalized PGA Tour and NASCAR circuits for online sports bettors, the Mountain State has something most gamblers envy. It sports two live thoroughbred horse-racing meets.

A look at what to bet this weekend begins with Hollywood at Charles Town Races. The track runs Thu-Sat at 7 pm. and Mountaineer follows Sun-Tue at 7 p.m.

Horse racing, golf, and a rare NASCAR double-dip headline the weekend betting at WV sportsbooks.

Welcome back WV horse racing and fans

The Charles Town track allows fans beginning Thursday night.

The casino already reopened to customers with enhanced safety measures. Even so, the majority of handle is still coming from online sports betting apps. Maybe this weekend will change that.

For the horse racing crowd:

  • There will be one entrance
  • Customers will be temperature checked
  • Floor decals and signage will outline the social distancing guidelines

And all of it will be strictly enforced.

Much to love for horse betting fans

Leading jockeys, large fields, and the unpredictable nature of claiming-level horses come together.

This is an interesting weekend to assess leading jockey Arnaldo Bocachica. He is the cream of the riding crop and is listed on four mounts Friday and Saturday.

But he will have his hands full in some races.

Bocachica’s first mount on Thursday, Bullgrats, is the 2-1 morning-line favorite. But he’s 1-for-18 lifetime. The horse has been in the money half the time but struggles to win. Barnstorm and Arya Peaceful loom as legitimate threats in the opening race.

If you’re a Bocachica fan, you get a good jockey on your horse. If you want to bet against him, you will receive reasonable odds because he’s often overbet.

Bocachica and J.D. Acosta, the third-leading jockey, provide an interesting angle. They are listed on separate horses in many of the same races on Thursday and Friday. Keep their horses in mind for exacta combinations.

The Thursday card has field sizes ranging between seven and 10 horses. On Friday, there are two races with 12 entries and one with 11. There should be nice trifecta and superfecta payouts in those events.

Combining claiming-level racing with large fields is the recipe for a nice score.

NASCAR back to back this weekend

There are two NASCAR Cup Series events this weekend.

The Pocono Organics occurs Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on Fox. And the Pocono 350 happens Sunday at 4 p.m. on FS 1.

This weekend two-pack follows one of the great finishes in NASCAR history.

Ryan Blaney won Monday’s Geico 500 by .007 seconds over Ricky Stenhouse Jr. It was Blaney’s first win of the season, second straight at the 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway and the fourth of his career.

Blaney returned +1200 at DraftKings Sportsbook to triumph and +350 for a Top 3 finish.

Blaney pulled into third for the Nascar Cup Series standings. They reveal that Top 10 drivers can be counted on to perform well, but notching consecutive victories are difficult.

This makes most drivers attractive as Top 3 and Top 10 finishers. There have been nine events since NASCAR returned with a flourish on May 17.

Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin, and Brad Keselowski own two wins apiece.
Chase Elliott, Martin Truex Jr., and Blaney have one.

Current driver standings:

  • Harvick, 490 points
  • Joey Logano 467
  • Blaney 465
  • Elliott 458
  • Keselowski 441

Four of the top five drivers are with Ford. Here are the manufacturers’ standings:

  • Ford 484 points
  • Toyota 452
  • Chevrolet 443

At DraftKings, Kyle Busch and Harvick are Saturday’s co-favorites at +500.
Blaney is +1100. No driver has won back-to-back events since NASCAR returned.

Elliott, Truex, and Hamlin are between +700 and +750. Logano represents good value. The second-leading points getter is +1100.

Want to administer your own Ford mini-competition?

On Saturday, Harvick is +170, Keselowski +300, and Logano and Blaney are +450 to be the top Ford driver.

This is always a nice side play. It provides a small pool of contestants, reasonable odds, and the prospect of a race within a race.

Watch for Sunday’s odds as the race approaches. Betting is usually scant on one event until its preceding competition is finished.

PGA: Can Simpson Repeat?

  • What: Travelers Championship

  • When: June 25-28

  • Where: TPC River Highlands — Cromwell, Connecticut
  • Watch: The Golf Channel, 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Do hot streaks carry over? We’ll find out this week when RBC Heritage champion Webb Simpson heads to the Travelers in Connecticut.

Simpson triumphed at the RBC Heritage with birdies on five of the last seven holes.

According to DraftKings, Simpson is:

  • +1800 to score a repeat victory
  • +400 to finish in the Top 5
  • +188 to land in the Top 10

The favorite is Justin Thomas at +1100. Rory McIlroy is right behind at +1200.

Other notables include Bryson DeChambeau at +1400 and Jon Rahm at +1800. For the first time in three tournaments, McIlroy is not the favorite at DraftKings.

FanDuel Sportsbook has an imaginative collection of win odds and props.
McIlroy is the favorite here +1200. DeChambeau and Thomas are +1300 and Simpson is +2200.

First-round leader? A total crapshoot, but some big names include:

  • DeChambeau at +2600
  • McIlroy at +2900
  • Thomas at +3100

Interesting PGA betting options

Here’s a fun, interesting prop.

FanDuel isolated the 10th hole with a long list of participants. Par for most of them is in the vicinity of -300. Birdies or bogeys are in the +500 range.

Now you can handicap something beyond the golfer. You can evaluate the hole.

The 10th hole considered the second hardest at the TPC River Highlands course. This is a narrow par 4 that requires a long, straight tee shot that avoids the large oak tree on the left side of the fairway.

From there, a downhill approach shot leads to a long, narrow green that slopes from front to back. The stroke average is a little above 4, suggesting some good players will struggle.

Stash this in your back pocket.

A golfer who has stayed under the radar, in terms of odds, is Tyrrell Hatton. He doesn’t play every week and it’s possible he’ll be overlooked on the board when he returns next week.

Hatton won the last tournament prior to the COVID-19 shutdown. He skipped the first one back and finished fourth last week in the Heritage.

He is scheduled to skip this week too and return for the Rocket Mortgage Classic next week. Hatton will probably be a good price when he does.

WV Sportsbooks: PGA Tour Golf And English Premier League Odds Are Hot This Weekend

Plenty of popular sports are back at West Virginia sportsbooks this weekend, including another PGA Tour event and the return of the English Premier League.

This upcoming weekend is another notable one for bettors. Plenty of popular sports are back at West Virginia sportsbooks, including another PGA Tour event and the return of the English Premier League.

As July approaches, more betting markets are becoming available. Sportsbooks are finally starting to look somewhat normal again.

While some retail books aren’t open for business quite yet, you’re able to wager through any of the WV online sports betting apps. They all feature more than enough odds for every sport currently playing.

Even though some of the major American sports are still working their way back, soccer fans should have no complaints.

England’s top level of soccer, the EPL, is back for the first time since the sports stoppage. It got underway with its first games on Wednesday.

The action starts up again on Friday afternoon and continues through the weekend. There are nine matches in total.

Bettors now have the majority of Europe’s top leagues available to bet on. The EPL joins Germany’s Bundesliga as well as Spain’s La Liga.

The Italian league, Serie A, also makes its comeback on Saturday. This marks the return of all of Europe’s biggest soccer leagues since France’s Ligue 1 is canceled.

Golf fans are in store for another exciting tournament, as well.

After a thrilling playoff finish to last week’s event, the world’s best will compete in the RBC Heritage this week. Players tee off on Thursday morning from the Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

DraftKings Sportsbook is offering several different promotions for this event, too.

Betting On EPL Soccer

The most popular soccer league in the world is back at sportsbooks this week. Bettors have several matches to wager on involving some of the EPL’s most famous clubs.

On Friday afternoon, Manchester United takes the pitch against Tottenham in what should be an exciting game. Although the league’s champion is all but set with Liverpool in first by 22 points, the remainder of the season is important for others.

Manchester United falls under that category as it currently sits in fifth place overall, just three points behind Chelsea. Tottenham is in eighth at the moment, however, it is only three points behind Sheffield in sixth.

FanDuel Sportsbook’s odds see this as a very tight matchup. It lists United as the slight favorites with +140 odds, while Tottenham is at +190.

The online sportsbook provides many other markets for this match, as well.

You can bet on Harry Kane being the first goal scorer with odds of +330. Marcus Rashford is the favorite to score first for United at +290.

FanDuel has even provided an odds boost for this contest.

You’re able to wager on Manchester United winning and there being at least three goals scored at odds of +320. This has been boosted from +272.

Another quality match takes place on Saturday morning between Arsenal and Brighton.

Arsenal, which sits in ninth place, is the favorite with odds of +130. FanDuel shows Brighton as the underdog at +200.

Again, the online sportsbook offers lines for many various props for every game.

Bettors can take Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to score at any time with odds of -115. Brighton’s Neal Maupay has odds of +155.

Another PGA Tour event, another DraftKings Sportsbook promotion. This week, bettors can take advantage of the online sportsbook’s newest deal based around the RBC Heritage golf tournament.

With the Golf Profit Boost, customers receive a 30% profit boost on one live wager during each of the first two rounds. The tournament started early Thursday morning.

After opting-in, you’ll get a single-use boost that you can use for a live bet of your choice. Bettors receive one boost for Thursday’s opening round, and one for Friday’s second round.

While the wager does need to be a live bet, parlays are included. The 30% boost will be applied to your winnings, not including the original bet.

The max bet for this promo is $50, with the max winnings capped at $250. Available boosts will expire at the end of each day.

If that wasn’t enough, DraftKings offers an additional promo for the third round on Saturday.

Just like the initial deal, bettors receive a 30% boost for one third-round wager. The only difference is this bet can be made live or prior to the start of the round.

You’ll have the opportunity to place a pre-match bet before the third round on either Friday night or Saturday morning.

Otherwise, the same rules apply. The max wager is $50 and the most you can win is $250. Parlays are also included.

Hopefully, the RBC Heritage will be just as exciting as last week’s golf action. Daniel Berger won the Charles Schwab Challenge in a tense playoff.

WV Sportsbooks Waiting (Not So) Patiently For The Return Of Major Sports Leagues

Sports like Bundesliga and UFC have kept WV sportsbooks in the game. An even bigger boost is close with the big four American sports nearing a comeback.

While the return of some sports like Bundesliga soccer and UFC have been crucial for West Virginia sportsbooks, an even bigger boost is right around the corner.

The big four American sports, as well as golf, tennis, and soccer, are all nearing a comeback. Professional leagues are coming up with new plans to determine the best route possible to get back to work.

The NBA and NHL almost completed their regular seasons when the leagues were forced into a stoppage.

After the NBA Board of Governors approved basketball’s latest 22-team plan, both winter sports are in a position to restart. Barring any health setbacks, a champion will be crowned in the NBA and NHL this year.

The return of Major League Baseball hasn’t been as smooth.

Beyond getting on the field for another spring training, players and owners are still negotiating the finer details. There are discrepancies in how many games will be played and how many players should be paid.

On a brighter note, MLS appears like it could be the first American sport back on the board at WV sportsbooks. The soccer league and players agreed to terms on Wednesday to a new collective bargaining agreement.

The MLS season is set to resume with a tournament scheduled to take place at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports facility. The complex near Orlando, Florida, is also home to where the NBA will reopen its year.

Thankfully, it seems as though the NFL is on pace to begin its upcoming season on time. While some voluntary workouts have been held virtually, the league is hoping training camp and the regular season remain unaffected.

Let’s take a closer look at the status of each league and what bettors should expect when they start playing again.

NBA’s Return Plan

The NBA voted on Thursday and approved the innovative 22-team format to restart the 2020 season. Games are supposed to begin on July 31 if everything goes to plan.

The 22 teams will consist of 13 Western Conference teams and just nine from the Eastern Conference. The league chose the top 16 squads from each conference, along with teams within six games of eighth place.

Those who benefitted from the extended arrangement include:

  • New Orleans Pelicans
  • Phoenix Suns
  • Portland Trailblazers
  • Sacramento Kings
  • San Antonio Spurs
  • Washington Wizards

Qualified teams will start back up with eight “regular season” games. These contests will help determine the seeds for the usual 16-team playoff bracket.

Most teams are already set in place; however, the six teams mentioned do have an opportunity to make the field.

If the ninth seed in either conference finishes this schedule within four games of the eighth seed, those two teams will compete in a play-in tournament.

The No. 9 seed would need to beat the No. 8 seed in both potential play-in games to earn the conference’s final seed. On the other hand, the No. 8 team would only need to win just one of those contests.

Currently, the Wizards are 5.5 games behind the eighth-seeded Orlando Magic. In the West, the Blazers, Pelicans, and Kings are all 3.5 games back of the No. 8 Grizzlies.

When the 16 teams are decided, playoffs will run like normal, with four total rounds being determined by seven-game series.

Players will start training with their teams in Orlando between July 9-11. The last date that the NBA Finals would conclude is Oct. 12.

NHL Postseason Tournament

The NHL has also finalized its playoff format. This season, it will finish the year out with a 24-team tournament. Similar to the NBA, the majority of teams will participate in the NHL’s Return To Play Plan.

Only the bottom seven teams in the league won’t be playing when teams return to the ice.

While playoff teams are set to compete against other conference opponents, this year’s layout is a little different than most.

The conference’s top four sides in both the East and the West have a bye past the opening round. They will play one another in a round-robin style schedule to determine the order of the top four seeds.

Each conference’s remaining eight teams matchup in a more regular first round. These consist of best-of-five game series with standard playoff overtime rules.

The winners from these opening-round series advance to face one of the best four teams from their conference. As the playoffs continue, teams will re-seed after each round, as opposed to a straight bracket format.

This means that the No. 1 seed will always face the lowest possible seed still in contention.

Once the initial playoff round is complete, every series that follows will be decided by a seven-game series.

Since the teams and qualifying series are already in place, WV online sports betting apps feature odds for who will advance. At the moment, DraftKings Sportsbook lists the following odds to win their qualifying round:

  • Calgary Flames -118 vs. Winnipeg Jets -106
  • Carolina Hurricanes -136 vs. New York Rangers +110
  • Edmonton Oilers -167 vs. Chicago Blackhawks +135
  • Nashville Predators -143 vs. Arizona Coyotes +116
  • New York Islanders -122 vs. Florida Panthers +100
  • Pittsburgh Penguins -195 vs. Montreal Canadiens +155
  • Toronto Maple Leafs -175 vs. Columbus Blue Jackets +140
  • Vancouver Canucks -134 vs. Minnesota Wild +110

Other Sports Leagues Coming Back

There are plenty of additional sports coming back, too.

Even though some may not return for another month or so, online sportsbooks in the Mountain State include futures odds for nearly every market.

Mobile platforms include:

As mentioned, MLS soccer may be one of the first sports back in the US. Teams are looking to arrive in Florida by June 24 for training.

It seems as though each team will play in a minimum of three games that will be included in the regular standings. Following that, the top 16 squads advance to a knockout stage that will play independently from the season.

The remainder of the regular schedule hasn’t been decided on at all.

Another sport almost back in action is the PGA Tour. While there have been a few special golf events played, the full tour has yet to return since sports stopped.

Players return to the course next weekend for the Charles Schwab Challenge. It will take place between June 11-14 from Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

Outside of the country, a lot of other popular soccer leagues are nearing their returns.

Spain’s La Liga is scheduled for a June 11 start date, whereas the English Premier League is set for June 17. Italy’s Serie A will follow those with games on June 20.

Invitation Accepted: WVU Hoops Set To Compete In The 2021 Charleston Classic

WVU hoops have a very busy schedule for 2021 and the team just booked another tournament, the 2021 Charleston Classic, an event run by ESPN.

The West Virginia sports betting crowd is ready for live sports to return. While many around Morgantown are undoubtedly excited for football season, college basketball betting is not far off, either.

The WVU Mountaineers are coming off a quality 2020 season and have high hopes heading into next year. Coach Bob Huggins had his team ready for another March Madness appearance again until games were postponed.

WVU has a very busy schedule for 2021 and the team just booked another tournament for the following year. The Mountaineers will compete in the 2021 Charleston Classic, an event run by ESPN.

WVU will join seven other teams in the annual tournament, including:

  • Boise State

Two more teams have yet to be named.

The Charleston Classic is a three-day event that takes place at the TD Arena at the College of Charleston. This marks the first time that WVU will play in the tournament.

WVU basketball 2020

WVU is looking to improve on a solid campaign where it went 21-10 overall and finished third in the Big 12 Conference. Despite a tough stretch toward the end of the year, the Mountaineers won their last two games and were ready for another NCAA Tournament.

Unfortunately, with sports shut down, the tournament never took place. WV sports betting fans are more than ready to make up for lost time.

WVU features a very skilled team that can make some noise next season. It is scheduled to play in a couple of events outside of its regular-season games that will truly test this unit.

This November, the Mountaineers are playing in the 2020 version of the Battle 4 Atlantis. The tournament takes place on Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas.

WVU will help celebrate the event’s 10th year with some of the best college basketball teams in the country. The 2020 Battle 4 Atlantis includes:

  • Creighton
  • Duke
  • Memphis
  • Ohio State
  • Texas A&M
  • Utah
  • Wichita State

If the schedules remain intact, then the tournament will run between Nov. 25-27.

Another event WVU is participating in is the Hall of Fame Invitational at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. If everything goes according to plan, the Mountaineers will play the Purdue Boilermakers on Sunday, Dec. 13.

WVU has a couple of other irregular games scheduled, too. The team will compete against both Pitt and Georgetown in the Big East/Big 12 Battle.

The Mountaineers will also take on an SEC opponent in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. The team hasn’t been confirmed as of yet, however, the game will play on Saturday, Jan. 30.

With all of these notable games on next season’s calendar, WVU has a chance to show the entire country how good it is.

WVU betting at WV Sportsbooks

WV sportsbooks expect the Mountaineers to perform even better than they did a year ago. A big part of their success will come down to some key players making their return to Morgantown.

Coach Huggins is anticipating that his three leading scorers from last season will be back playing inside WVU Coliseum. Oscar Tshiebwe, Derek Culver and Miles McBride should all be key contributors again.

The three led WVU in scoring, with only the freshman McBride averaging fewer than 10 points per game (9.5). The team will rely heavily on these three in 2021.

On top of scoring, Tshiebwe can be one of the most dominant players in all of college basketball. He averaged over 11 points, nine rebounds, to go with a block and almost a steal per contest.

If he’s able to show some growth between his first and second seasons, WVU could have a real shot to win the Big 12.

College basketball doesn’t begin for several months, but every online platform in WV shows odds already. Mobile options include:

Currently, you’re able to bet on which teams will make the 2021 Final Four and who will win the title game. DraftKings features the following odds for WVU basketball:

WVU Football: A Look At The Mountaineers And The 2020 College Football Season

After a forgettable 2019, WVU football gets ready for the 2020 college football season. The Mountaineers’ season opener is Sept. 5 against Florida State.

The WVU Mountaineers football team is certainly ready to start preparing for next season. After a forgettable 2019, second-year coach Neal Brown and his squad want to get back out on the playing field.

Of course, the start date for this upcoming season is in jeopardy due to COVID-19. While some of the country, including West Virginia, is beginning to open businesses back up, there are still lots of questions around live sporting events.

Although other sports are still trying to figure out the safest plan of action, college football has some time. WVU’s season is currently slated to start on Sept. 5 against Florida State.

Along with football fans in the Mountain State, WV sportsbooks are very hopeful that the college season starts on time. Betting revenue figures have plummeted since the nation entered quarantine protocol.

Even though the Mountaineers aren’t ranked in ESPN’s Way-Too-Early Top 25, expectations are high in Morgantown. The team is looking to greatly improve on its 5-7 record and get back to being contenders in the Big 12 Conference.

Last season was definitely a struggle, but the team performed much better down the stretch. Following a five-game losing streak, WVU won two of its final three games.

While those victories didn’t do anything to change the fortunes of last year, it was a step in the right direction. The coaching staff and fan base are hoping it was a preview of what’s to come in 2020.

Let’s take a deeper look at WVU’s outlook and how the team might fare in coach Brown’s second campaign.

WVU Football

With a 3-6 record through mid-November, the Mountaineers decided to make a change at quarterback. This move paid off tremendously as they ended the season on a high note.

Although junior Jarret Doege wasn’t unstoppable, he provided a spark the team was missing with Austin Kendall.

WVU proceeded to defeat No. 24 Kansas State and TCU on the road. Its only failure with Doege under center was a seven-point loss to No. 21 Oklahoma State.

In total, Doege completed almost 66% of his passes for over 800 yards and seven touchdowns down the stretch.

While Doege has all of the momentum on his side this offseason, he isn’t a lock to be the starter next year. Kendall will be back, along with guys like Trent Jackson and Trey Lowe III.

It’s tough to tell how much practice time players will actually get before the season starts, but a quarterback competition is never a bad thing. Coach Brown will have multiple quality options to be his signal-caller.

One aspect of this year’s team that needs to improve is its running game. Both quarterbacks were asked to do too much in order to win.

Despite the fact that team rushing stats are slightly skewed because of negative sack yards, WVU struggled last year.

As a whole, the Mountaineers rushed for less than 1,000 total yards in 12 games. They ran 334 times for 879 yards, an average of just 2.6 yards per carry.

Fortunately, WVU returns its leading rusher from a year ago in Leddie Brown. He led the team in rushing in six games and accumulated 367 yards for the season.

It won’t be easy, but the Mountaineers have a lot of pieces in place to help make 2020 a much more memorable season.

College Football’s Top-Ranked Teams

Even if WVU exceeds all expectations next year, it probably won’t be in the picture to qualify for the College Football Playoff. It could have a very productive season and make a bowl game, but the Mountaineers are still a few years away.

When looking at the national picture, a lot of familiar teams are at the top of the rankings. Here is ESPN’s top three heading into the preseason:

1. Clemson

The Tigers have been one of the best programs over the last decade. They’ve made the playoff in each of the last five seasons.

Even though they lost plenty of players to the NFL in the draft, the Tigers are again among the best teams.

Clemson’s biggest strength is with its offensive playmakers. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence is a Heisman frontrunner and likely the top pick in next year’s draft.

Running back Travis Etienne is no slouch, either. He totaled over 2,000 yards from scrimmage a season ago.

With the ACC Conference not as strong as some others, it would be very surprising if Clemson isn’t back competing for a title.

2. Ohio State

Another team that’s been a stalwart in college football recently is the Ohio State Buckeyes. Not coincidentally, they also have one of the best quarterbacks in the country.

Justin Fields was spectacular last season, leading OSU to the CFP. The Buckeyes went undefeated until the playoff when they just narrowly lost to Clemson.

Like the Tigers, Ohio State will feel some effects from losing studs like Chase Young and Jeff Okudah. However, it always finds a way to be among the best teams with loaded recruiting classes yearly.

The Big 10 Conference is much more competitive than the ACC, but it still shouldn’t matter. Unless the injury bug happens to strike in Columbus, the Buckeyes will most likely be in contention at the end of the year.

3. Alabama

Last season was the first time Alabama missed the CFP in six years. That probably doesn’t bode well for the rest of the nation and the SEC West.

A motivated Nick Saban will have his guys ready to go from the start, even with a lot of new players.

The most notable change will be at QB since Tua Tagovailoa took his talents to the next level. Junior Mac Jones and freshman Bryce Young will compete for the starting position.

Whoever wins the job will have more than enough help around him. Receiver DeVonta Smith and running back Najee Harris are explosive options. Both players accounted for more than 1,200 yards in 2019.

The Tide’s inexperience at quarterback could haunt them in the end, but they are likely to have a great year and return to the playoff.

WV Sportsbooks Feature Some Unique Sports To Keep Bettors Betting

Online sportsbooks in West Virginia are open for business and currently showcase betting odds not available before coronavirus closed the sports world.

The process of social distancing has impacted everyone around the country, including the sportsbooks in West Virginia.

With every WV casino closed, there is a more significant emphasis on mobile sports betting apps.

While all three in the Mountain State are still accepting sports bets online, there isn’t a whole lot to bet on.

The sports shutdown throughout the world has forced the online platforms to offer some very unique betting markets.

Online sportsbooks are open for business and currently showcase odds that might not have existed previously. Mobile wagering apps include:

Although most of the betting options don’t necessarily bring in a lot of revenue, sportsbooks don’t expect them to. A few of the random markets now offered are mostly helping books keep bettors active during this incredibly slow period.

Acquiring customers is one of the most challenging tasks for any new business. Since these online sportsbooks have already devoted a lot of time and money into building a customer base, they don’t want to do so again.

By providing some different markets that wouldn’t be available; otherwise, betting apps can keep the interest of everyone.

So even though sportsbooks and casinos are losing plenty of money at the moment, they understand the circumstances. If they’re able to retain the majority of bettors that use the online platforms, then they’ll be content and in a good position when sports do return.

Let’s examine some of the most uncommon betting odds offered right now at WV sportsbooks.

Moscow Table Tennis

Table tennis is by far one of the strangest markets available to bet on. Although it’s an Olympic sport, there isn’t much coverage around professional ping-pong in the US.

Table tennis is usually considered a game played among friends at a social gathering, but now you’re able to wager on the pro league in Moscow.

The Moscow Liga Pro is offered at multiple online sportsbooks in WV.

While you might want to do a little research on the actual scoring rules of table tennis before wagering, the odds are presented just like regular tennis matches.

On top of providing you a sport to bet on, FanDuel even gives you something to watch. You’re able to live stream most of the table tennis matchups directly from your mobile device.

Even though ping-pong is a bizarre sport to wager on, it makes sense why sportsbooks feature odds for it. Americans are familiar with the game and can definitely find some entertainment value by putting money on a match.

Taiwan Basketball

Another sport that people in the US love to watch and gamble on is basketball. Without the NBA or March Madness this spring, bettors must turn to Taiwan basketball.

Of course, American basketball is widely covered in this country, but you don’t hear too much about foreign leagues. Though several international teams are more than formidable, the majority of good players take their talents to the NBA.

Despite probably not knowing much about players or rules, you can bet on Taiwan basketball at WV sportsbooks. Even though there aren’t as many odds given as you might typically find, there is at least a moneyline for every game.

Again, sportsbooks recognize that they won’t be earning a lot of revenue from these markets. DraftKings implemented a maximum profit of $500 for specific events.

But like table tennis, basketball is very common around the US and is something bettors might find exciting no matter which country it’s being played in.

Virtual Sports

As far as betting on bizarre sporting events, nothing is weirder than animated virtual sports. While this option is usually listed at online casinos, BetMGM highlights virtuals at the top of its sportsbook.

If you’re unfamiliar with these types of “sports,” they are exactly what they sound like. Bettors can put money down on a computer-generated race or game.

Currently, BetMGM has the following options available:

  • Horses
  • Greyhounds
  • Motorcycles
  • Cars
  • Soccer

Instead of waiting for a live event to begin, you can place a bet on a virtual race or match anytime you want.

Some people might enjoy putting a few dollars down on virtual sports. However, they would never be listed as a top sportsbook option in most cases.

World Soccer

The most normal oddball betting market is soccer matches in foreign countries. Although international soccer leagues like the EPL, La Liga, and Serie A are very popular for bettors in the US, all of those are shut down as well.

With minimal options remaining, online sportsbooks are bringing attention to any soccer they can find.

The most popular option is professional soccer in Belarus. All three mobile betting apps in WV include odds for the Vysheyshaya Liga.

Another market offered is soccer in Nicaragua.

Unlike table tennis or virtual sports, the game of soccer is the same everywhere in the world. If sportsbooks can occupy bettors for a few months with markets that seem familiar, then they’ve done their job.

West Virginia Sportsbooks: What Betting Options Are Still Left?

The majority of sports leagues have postponed play for the foreseeable future, but West Virginia sportsbooks still feature several betting options.

It’s been a difficult couple of weeks in the US and around the world as everyone has been forced to adjust to the spread of COVID-19.

While the majority of sports leagues have postponed play for the foreseeable future, West Virginia sportsbooks still feature a decent amount of betting options.

Of course, most of these markets are not the usual ones bettors in the US typically wager on. Every major league in the country has been forced to shut down.

That includes both the NBA and NHL, which were nearing the end of their regular seasons.

Major league baseball planned on opening its season this week, but it also suspended games for at least another month.

The most significant cancellation might have been for college sports. The NCAA put a stop to every remaining winter and spring sport on the schedule.

Unfortunately, this included one of the most exciting sporting events on the calendar every year. March Madness, along with every conference tournament was canceled, ending the college basketball year.

This tournament was in line to be the most wagered on event ever, with several states featuring online sports betting apps for the first time.

Even though the lack of sports is difficult, everyone’s health must take precedence.

Thankfully, the Mountain State showcases three great online sportsbooks that all have betting options still available:

Let’s take a deeper dive into the mobile platforms and examine which sports are still being offered.

NFL Futures

The most exciting betting option at WV sportsbooks are NFL futures. Although it’s never too early to start placing wagers for next season, there is a more immediate event on the NFL schedule.

Despite the precautions being taken nationwide, the NFL Draft is set to go off as expected. Even though it won’t take place with thousands of fans in Las Vegas as originally planned, the draft will still get underway on April 23.

League commissioner Roger Goodell told teams on Thursday that the date was not going to change.

This is great news for bettors as the draft provides plenty of different betting opportunities.

Between all of the mobile wagering apps, you’re able to find various odds for the 2020 draft. Markets include who will be the first overall selection, which team will draft certain players and the top picks at each position.

One choice that stands out is the total number of players at each position taken in the opening round. DraftKings currently has the following odds:

Total quarterbacks drafted in the first round:

  • Over 4.5
    • +340
  • Under 4.5
    • 455

Total running backs drafted in the first round:

  • Over 0.5
    • -305
  • Under 0.5
    • +240

Total cornerbacks drafted in the first round:

  • Over 4.5
    • -143
  • Under 4.5
    • +118

Total wide receivers drafted in the first round:

  • Over 5.5
    • -143
  • Under 5.5
    • +118

UFC

Another betting option coming up in the near future is with UFC. Perhaps now is the perfect time to get into MMA fighting if it was not previously on your radar.

UFC 249 is still currently scheduled for Saturday, April 18. Its main card consists of several compelling fights, including a Lightweight title matchup.

Khabib Nurmagomedov will look to defend his belt and undefeated record up against Tony Ferguson.

The Co-main event is shaping up to be a quality fight, too. Jessica Andrade and Rose Namajunas are set to meet in the octagon in the Strawweight division.

Here are the current betting odds for April’s UFC event according to FanDuel:

Lightweight – Main event

  • Khabib Nurmagomedov -270
  • Tony Ferguson +220

Women Strawweight – Co-main

  • Rose Namajunas -166
  • Jessica Andrade +140

Belarus Soccer

If you’re looking for something to bet on prior to the end of March, then soccer is the move. Even though popular leagues like the English Premier League and Champions League have halted action, other countries are still playing.

The Belarusian soccer league, Vysshaya Liga, is one of the few remaining options available in Europe. Its season has just begun as every team has played just one match.

The second week of action has a few close contests according to sportsbooks. Games get underway on Friday and play throughout the weekend.

The following odds are currently listed on BetMGM for a few of the better matches this week:

  • FC Ruh Brest +170
  • Energetik-BGU Minsk +145
  • FC Minsk +250
  • Dinamo Minsk +110
  • FC Isloch -118
  • FC Smolevichi +280
  • Neman Grodno +140
  • FC Vitebsk +190

Details on qualifying for the DraftKings Sports Betting Championship for Spring 2020

For West Virginians, participation in this event will ultimately require some travel. Although you can qualify from your home state, the competition takes place in New Jersey.

There are two paths to qualification.

The first is a direct buy-in of $5,000. Simply email DraftKings Sportsbook at [email protected] to complete that purchase.

The other method is through playing NBA daily fantasy games on the online sports betting app. Those contests are ongoing right now and time is drawing short.

Regardless of whether you buy-in or qualify playing DFS, time is also drawing short to make your travel plans to the Garden State. The championship event is coming up soon.

The championship structure for spring

On Thursday, March 19, DraftKings will begin its event at its retail sportsbook in Weehawken, NJ. It will run the event from that location.

The competition is simple. Each player starts out with a $2,000 bankroll. The object is to turn that into as much money as possible through betting.

The championship event lasts throughout the rest of the weekend. Bettors can bet on any eligible college basketball tournament or NBA games all weekend long.

Qualifiers do not have to be physically present at the location to participate. They do have to physically be within the state of New Jersey, however.

In order to stay in the competition, you have to wager at least $1,000 each day.

It’s also important to note that NJ doesn’t allow wagering on in-state college teams, so if you fancy Seton Hall for a bet, DraftKings won’t be able to accommodate you.

When the competition ends on Sunday, March 22, you will take home your bankroll and any leaderboard prizes you may qualify for. If there are any ties on the leaderboard, winners will share the appropriate prizes.

Although spending a weekend in NJ might seem an unnecessary expense, that can quickly be recovered by the prizes. Additionally, those who qualify through DFS games get four nights in a hotel and $1,000 to cover travel expenses.

You can’t win if you don’t play. These prizes could turn any investment you make into a sound one.

You could return home with a fatter wallet

Although prize values will vary somewhat based on the number of entries, everyone who qualifies for the top 25 spots should come away happy.

DraftKings is offering $500,000 to a grand prize winner, for example. A runner-up would get $250,200 while a third-place player can claim $150,120.

Even those in 21st-25th places will take home $10,008. That is in addition to whatever they make from their wagers of course.

Time is of the essence. Visit DraftKings Sportsbook for all the details.  Your chance at half a million dollars awaits you.

March Madness 2020: WVU Mountaineers’ Outlook Leading Up To The Big Dance

The WVU Hoops have had a great year and WV sports betting fans will be glad to know WVU will qualify for March Madness regardless of how the final games go.

College basketball is nearing the end of the regular season which means March Madness is just around the corner.

The WVU Mountaineers have had a great year and will qualify for the 2020 NCAA Tournament regardless of how the final games go.

After an incredible start, WVU has cooled down of late. Prior to beating Oklahoma State, it lost three straight games to solid Big 12 Conference opponents:

  • Oklahoma
  • Kansas
  • Baylor

More recently, the struggles have continued. WVU dropped its last two matchups on road, losing to TCU and Texas this week.

The Mountaineers sit at 19-9 overall, with just a 7-8-conference record. They lost on the road to Kansas, Kansas State and Texas Tech in the month of January.

Still, WVU is ranked 20th in the AP Top 25 and has been for most of the year. Coach Bob Huggins leads a solid team that has the potential to make some noise in the tournament.

Winning a few more games down the stretch couldn’t hurt of course, but the Mountaineers have pretty much solidified a spot in postseason play.

The remaining games on the schedule and the postseason Big 12 Tournament will determine what type of seed WVU receives. It was projected as high as a No. 2 seed earlier in the month, however, now it’s listed on the No. 3 line.

Even if the Mountaineers fall to a No.4 seed, they’d still be in great position to make it to the Sweet 16.

West Virginia sportsbooks are hoping WVU can make a deep tournament run to help boost betting figures. The Mountain State has been generating plenty of college basketball wagering on its online sports betting apps.

Let’s examine WVU’s schedule down the stretch and see where it might end up for the tournament.

WVU Basketball Review

The Mountaineers have had a solid 2020 campaign thus far and have themselves in a great spot overall. Despite not playing as well of late, the stellar start to the year has set them up well.

WVU won 11 of its first 12 and 14 of its first 16 contests to start the season. This included an eight-point victory over then No. 2 Ohio State.

Since that point, the Mountaineers are just 5-5 and have especially struggled on the road. Away from Morgantown, WVU is only 3-8 overall.

While it has 19 wins, none are all too impressive, either. The Buckeyes have proven to not be a top-five team and are ranked 23rd this week.

WVU split the season series with last year’s national runner-up, Texas Tech, but is 0-3 against KU and Baylor. The Mountaineers close out the season on March 7 at home in their second matchup against the Bears.

Even though WVU hasn’t broken through against the conference’s best, not many teams have. Baylor and Kansas have a combined record of 50-5.

Besides beating some of the other Big 12 teams, early wins over Northern Iowa and Wichita State are notable. Both are projected to make the field of 68.

WVU has a solid mix of youthful talent and veteran leadership. Freshman Oscar Tshiebwe has started to grow his game even more. He’s averaging over 11 points and nine rebounds per game.

Derek Culver is also having a very productive season. He scores more than 10 points and grabs close to nine rebounds per contest.

WVU March Madness Projection

The Mountaineers are basically already in the NCAA Tournament with three regular-season games remaining. How they finish the year will settle what type of seed the selection committee will award them in a few weeks.

WVU had some opportunities to change its usual narrative for road games but failed to do so against mediocre Big 12 teams. It lost two very winnable games in a row, suffering defeats against TCU and Texas.

Both teams are still under .500 in conference play even with their latest victories.

WVU returns home on Saturday when it looks to exact revenge on Oklahoma. The Sooners defeated WVU by 10 in their first meeting.

After that, the Mountaineers have a chance to snag another conference win on the road when they play Iowa State on March 3. They already beat the Cyclones by 15 at the beginning of February.

The season finale against Baylor will be a great test to see where this team is at. Having home-court advantage should help make it tighter than the 11-point difference in the game a few weeks ago.

The Mountaineers can easily win out the remainder of their games with the exception of the Baylor game. A 2-1 record to end the year will put WVU at 21-10 and in prime position for March Madness.

Its recent losses have eliminated the shot at earning a No. 1 seed, however, a No. 2 seed is probably still obtainable if WVU can win the Big 12 postseason tourney. An upset of Baylor would go a long way as well.

In a year where there is not a clear-cut favorite, WVU has the potential to get hot and compete for a trip to the Final Four.

Mountaineers’ Betting Odds

While winning the Big 12 is out of the question at this point, bettors can still place futures on the Mountaineers reaching the Final Four or to win the title.

The state now features three online sportsbooks, including:

The following are the current postseason odds according to DraftKings:

Make Final Four

  • WVU +725

Win National Championship

  • WVU +3300
