WVU Football and NFL Week 4 Betting Are Focus Of WV Sportsbooks This Weekend

Posted on October 2, 2020

As the calendar turns to October, West Virginia sportsbooks are still loaded with great markets for bettors of all types.

This weekend, football wagering highlights each of the online sports betting apps.

WVU football is looking to rebound after its first loss of the season. The Mountaineers were defeated in a close battle last weekend against Oklahoma State.

The Cowboys used a quick start and a late touchdown drive to take down WVU by a score of 27-13.

Despite the result, coach Neal Brown and his team have a lot to be happy about. WVU played well overall, and showed quality from several players on both sides of the ball.

On Saturday, the Mountaineers will have the opportunity to get back over .500 with a victory over Baylor.

The Bears were unable to play any non-conference games because of postponements due to COVID-19. They opened their season last week with a win over Kansas, 47-14.

There is plenty of other college football betting this weekend, too.

With the condensed schedules, there are some amazing early-season matchups around the country. The SEC features two games with every team ranked within the top 13.

Then on Sunday, NFL betting is back at sportsbooks. With this being the last week until byes begin, there are another 16 games to wager on in total.

As always, the action gets underway on Thursday night. This week’s game is a little less exciting than most others, as the 0-3 New York Jets and Denver Broncos each look to snag their first W.

Outside of the gridiron, the NBA Finals start up on Wednesday night. WV sportsbooks include futures, as well as a wide variety of game and player props for each game.

Let’s preview the best markets to bet on this weekend.

WVU football vs. Baylor

The Mountaineers didn’t cover in their Big 12 opener; however, they showed a lot of promise. If they hadn’t committed as many penalties or turned the ball over twice, the outcome could have been different.

WVU and backers of the team will look for redemption on Saturday afternoon against Baylor.

While the Bears blew out Kansas, the Jayhawks are considered one of the worst teams in the conference. They have the longest odds to win the Big 12 by a wide margin.

That said, this weekend’s game should be a very close call. WV sportsbooks tend to agree.

Currently, DraftKings Sportsbook shows Baylor as slight favorites on the road. The online sportsbook has the Bears laying -3, with a moneyline of -152.

This means bettors in the Mountain State can take their Mountaineers with the point spread receiving +3, or the moneyline at +125.

DraftKings sees both offenses getting in the end zone a few times, as the game’s total is set at 53.5 points.

This would be a crucial win for the Mountaineers. With Kansas scheduled for next week, WVU could be looking at a 3-1 start.

The Southeastern Conference includes two must-see games on Saturday.

The first is between No. 2 Alabama and No. 13 Texas A&M at 3:30 p.m. ET. Although both teams’ rankings are relatively close, DraftKings is giving the Tide a big advantage.

It has Alabama as the favorite giving -17 points, with a moneyline of -910.

Those who are feeling the potential upset can take the Aggies getting the +17, or their +575 moneyline.

The other notable matchup is a night game between No. 4 Georgia and No. 7 Auburn. DraftKings has this contest much closer, with Georgia giving -6.5 points at home. Its moneyline is -250 right now, while Auburn is receiving +6.5 and has odds of +200 to win outright.

NFL Week 4 betting

The NFL has another enticing slate of games on Sunday. Professional football’s first three weeks have been as exciting as ever, with the lack of fans in most stadiums not having much of an impact.

Like always, there are some surprise teams and some disappointments through the first few games.

The Chicago Bears are one of the surprise undefeated teams, whereas the Eagles are having some issues. Philadelphia is 0-2-1 after tying the Bengals a week ago.

If they don’t get a win this weekend, there could be many calling for change.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Eagles are touchdown underdogs going up against San Francisco.

Even though the Niners have a slew of injuries, the online sportsbook has them laying -7, with a moneyline of -330. Bettors can put action down on the Eagles at +7, or their moneyline at +265.

The Sunday nightcap’s total is posted at 45.5 points right now.

While the Thursday game isn’t amazing on paper, it could be fun to wager on.

FanDuel lists the Broncos as slight favorites on the road at the Jets. Denver is giving -1.5 points, but both teams actually have the same moneyline odds.

Despite the Jets receiving +1.5, you can bet on both sides’ moneyline odds of -108.

This one should be lower scoring than the majority of NFL games. The total is set at 39.5 points.

Beside the standard lines, most online platforms provide several game and player props for each matchup. FanDuel has the following odds for which player will score the first touchdown in Jets vs. Broncos:

  • Melvin Gordon +430
  • Braxton Berrios +850
  • Jamison Crowder +850
  • Noah Fant +900
  • Frank Gore +900
  • Chris Herndon +1100
  • Jerry Jeudy +1200
  • Chris Hogan +1200
  • Lawrence Cager +1200
  • Phillip Lindsay +1200
  • KJ Hamler +1400

Additional NFL odds

Cincinnati Bengals -3 (Moneyline: -164) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars +3 (Moneyline: +138)

Cleveland Browns +4.5 (Moneyline: +190) vs. Dallas Cowboys -4.5 (Moneyline: -230)

Washington Football Team +13 (Moneyline: +560) vs. Baltimore Ravens -13 (Moneyline: -770)

NBA Finals odds at WV sportsbooks

If football isn’t the only sport you love to wager on, WV sportsbooks have lots of other options. Regardless of the time of year, the NBA Finals always attract attention from bettors everywhere.

The Los Angeles Lakers are no surprise to represent the West; however, the Miami Heat were not projected to make it this far.

Those in WV can now bet on the NBA Finals or basically any other sport with several mobile apps. Outside of DraftKings and FanDuel, residents have access to the following platforms, too:

The finals began on Wednesday evening, with Game 2 scheduled for Friday and the third game on Sunday night.
