WV Sportsbooks Feature A Loaded Weekend Of NBA, NHL, And MLB Betting

Posted on July 31, 2020

The moment all sports bettors have waited for is finally here. This weekend at West Virginia sportsbooks, you’ll be able to wager on the NBA, NHL and Major League Baseball.

For the first time in over four months, sports fans can bet on multiple of the most popular betting markets around.

This is excellent news for the Mountain State and sportsbooks across the country. Betting handles will start to once again increase to where they were before the COVID-19 shutdown.

Despite having online sports betting apps in place for wagering, this has been a slow period for bets. Until recently, there weren’t a lot of available options at sportsbooks.

While getting the UFC and MLS back was helpful, these sports leagues don’t match up to the big four American sports.

This weekend should prove to be one of the busiest for sports bettors in quite some time.

The start of the baseball season has already had an impact. Sportsbooks now have more to wager on, including live markets during the day.

Even though MLB betting has supplied a much-needed boost, books should take off this weekend.

Both the NBA and NHL are entering the final stretch, and champions are close to being crowned.

The basketball restart includes an eight-game “regular season” schedule. Teams will have the opportunity to fine-tune their games before entering the playoffs.

On the other hand, hockey is diving right into the most competitive play. With no regular games put in place, the 24-team playoff tournament is set to begin on Saturday.

Fortunately, things are looking up for the WV Lottery. After months of not meeting expectations, sportsbooks have lots of great options, and the first WV online casino in DraftKings Casino has launched.

Betting On The NBA at WV sportsbooks

NBA enthusiasts have been waiting patiently for months. This weekend marks the first time they can wager on their favorite team since the season was postponed on March 11.

The remainder of the year gets underway with two games Thursday night and plenty of others this weekend. In total, there are 17 games available from Friday to Sunday.

Although these eight games before the playoffs are not crucial for most teams, there is some need to win immediately.

Like always, the top eight teams from each conference qualify for the postseason. The only difference with this year’s new format is that the squads on the outside have more of a chance.

If the ninth seed finishes within four games in the standings of eighth place, then those two teams will compete in a play-in series. Those two teams will match up with one another, with the No. 9 seed needing to win both games to move on.

The eighth seed would only need a single victory in either of the two games.

This means that teams needing to make up ground have no room for error at the start. In the Western Conference, four teams are within four games of the eighth-place Memphis Grizzlies.

The NBA didn’t waste any time scheduling some crucial contests.

Memphis will battle the current ninth seed, the Portland Trailblazers, in both teams’ first action back. Portland sits 3.5 games back of the final playoff spot at the moment.

Of course, WV sportsbooks see this as a very tight game. DraftKings Sportsbook lists the Blazers as the favorite, laying -2 points with a moneyline of -134. Memphis is receiving the +2 spread, and have a moneyline of +112.

NBA promo at DraftKings

The online sportsbook provides several promotions to celebrate the restart of NBA betting. One of the best offers gives customers a 5-1 boost on any team of your choosing.

After opting-in to the deal, you must choose a game from this weekend (through Saturday) to boost. Once you’ve selected which game, you can add either team’s moneyline to your betting slip and apply the boost.

The most you can wager for this promo is $20, earning you $100 with a correct pick.

This offer is for any game taking place from July 30 to August 1.

One of the biggest moneyline favorites to win their first game is the Orlando Magic. They’re giving -7 to the Brooklyn Nets, with a moneyline of -286.

With DraftKings’ boost, you could get odds of +500 for Orlando instead. This game tips off on Friday afternoon.

On Saturday, the Philadelphia 76ers are the most sizable favorite. They’re laying -6 points in their first game back against the Indiana Pacers.

DraftKings lists Philly at -250 to win the game.

NHL playoff betting

The NHL season also makes its return this weekend. As opposed to playing in any meaningful regular-season games, teams will hit the ice as the 2020 playoffs begin.

Typically, the NHL playoffs are very fast-paced and physical, so it will be interesting to see how these series start. We may see more injuries than usual since players have been away from the game for so long.

The NHL tournament features 24 teams, with 16 of them participating in a qualifying-round matchup. A best-of-five series determine this opening round.

The additional top eight teams (four from each conference) play round-robin games against one another to determine the top seeds.

FanDuel Sportsbook has everything NHL bettors are looking for. It showcases plenty of NHL markets for individual games and series.

FanDuel also includes futures lines for which team will win the Stanley Cup.

In the first game back to action, the New York Rangers will take on the Carolina Hurricanes. This qualifying series gets started on Saturday at noon.

The online sportsbook currently lists the Hurricanes as slight favorites, despite not having any home-ice advantage.

FanDuel has Carolina listed at -130, while the Rangers are at +110 to win the first game. The total for this tilt is set at 5.5 goals.

You can wager on the outcome of this series, too.

The Rangers are slight underdogs to come out on top at +112, and the Hurricanes are favorites with odds of -136.

This weekend has a total of 10 games to bet on.

MLB betting at WV sportsbooks

There is a full slate of MLB games at sportsbooks this weekend, as well. Although the Marlins are struggling with the spread of the coronavirus, it appears that the first week of the new season has gone well.

Although there won’t be any Marlins or Phillies games available, books have lots of quality series to wager on.

In what always proves to be a great matchup, the New York Yankees will play their home opener against the Boston Red Sox.

The Yankees are off to a hot start, whereas the Sox are still finding their way.

The three-game set will conclude on Sunday night baseball in a pitching duel between Matt Hall and James Paxton.

As expected, the Yanks are favorites to win the series. According to BetMGM Sportsbook, they’re listed at -223, and the Red Sox have odds of +195 to win the opening game.

Another good series is between the New York Mets and Atlanta Braves. The two sides already completed a series to start the season, with the Braves taking two-of-three.

They will go head-to-head this weekend again to see if someone can jump ahead in the NL East.

BetMGM lists Atlanta as the favorites to take the first game of the series, with odds of -134. The Mets are the underdog to win the opener at +120.
